Thank you to everyone who's been thinking of me, and especially to Ellbell for the card

We moved out of our old flat on Weds and into the new one on Thurs. It all took a bit longer than anticipated and the place is in chaos. I did go to my new gynaecologist on Thursday evening for a check-up and all was fine. Yesterday morning I woke up with a sudden, painless but enormous bleed and went to hospital fearing the worst. But, big relief, both the baby and my cervix are fine and it seems the bleed came from the placenta which is currently low-lying and touching my cervix. I'm just about to trawl through all the threads on placenta praevia, because the hospital seemed to think I was a prime candidate, although the placenta might still move. They kept me in on bed rest yesterday but let me out this morning with instructions to rest as much as possible and gradually increase activity. The bleed stopped as quickly as it had started and I only have a very little old blood coming now. Have spent most of today lying down and keeping ds out of poor dh's way while he tries to unpack everything, and just fetching the odd thing out of boxes now and again. Am pretty wrung out - the ups and downs of the last month or so, the move and now this - provisionally happy ending but enormous shock at the time. On the up side, the flat is lovely and I can see some semblance of normality glimmering in the far distance.

Was at the hospital today. They did do a scan, a very thorough one, and a small part of the placenta is actually on the other side of the cervix to the rest of it and there is a thin 'bridge' across the cervix. It could still move but the specialist didn't really think it would, and if it doesn't it's a CS for sure. Am a bit about that as I really didn't want a CS, but very happy that the baby is doing so well. I don't have to lie down but have to take more or less everything slowly and easily.

They also ruled out vasa praevia which is a big relief.

thank you everyone.

Latest dramatic development:

We've been getting a bit that the flat still smells of very fresh paint 2 weeks after it was finished (we've been in here a week). The floor in all the rooms apart from the kitchen and bathroom is painted with something shiny and we decided to get some advice. Anyway, we've been told it is very likely that whatever it is is still emitting potentially noxious substances (apparently these things take about 4 weeks to dry out properly) and we need to get out for the next week or so Our landlord is being extremely unhelpful and refuses to give us the number of the painter/decorator. Fortunately PIL go away for a week on Saturday, so we can have their flat, but it's a hotel until then. I don't bloody believe it Hopefully the baby and ds are fine - I'm bloody glad right now I'm not in the 1st trimester any more.

Oh dear! That's all you need. Hope you can stay calm and take it easy

update in this interminable saga: we got out for 2 days but are back now. I can't face a week at ILs' tiny flat in the back of beyond with a dreadful journey to work (I go back tomorrow) and figured it would cause more stress and potential damage (as would the nicotine fumes of 20 years of MIL's heavy smoking coming out of the carpets and walls ). We've got all the windows wide open (even at night) and a veritable garden centre of air-cleaning plants. I spoke to someone who said the baby is likely to be OK because the organs are all formed. Tomorrow the painter is coming and we'll be able to find out what it was and whether there actually is any danger. Oh, how lovely it would be if things were just a bit normal again...

Welcome back to Berlin berolina! Sorry you had so much hassle with the flat and hope it's smelling better now! Well we've got great weather atleast so you can have your windows open without freezing!
Are you otherwise pleased with your new Kiez? How is ds liking it?
