When is it a good idea to start buying baby stuff ? I’m very reluctant as had 3 misscarrages before but this time at least 15 weeks and pray it carries on

I've bought stuff as and when I've felt like it, or seen a good deal. But the majority of it won't be bought until next month (32 weeks along) when my parents bring down their giant stock of things they've got me.

Hi op ,

I think it's about whenever you feel comfortable to do so. Dp and I began buying for our baby after 20 weeks had passed because we felt a little more secure by that stage.

It is difficult though as I've had many meltdowns as this pregnancy progresses due to our previous loss. For example I'm couple of weeks from my due date now and found myself crying and freaking out when dp put the cot up and took the tags off of our baby's clothing!

I guess I'd just say that you should take it slowly op, if you feel the anxiety building then stop buying for a day or two before you move forward again.

Congratulations by the way , wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancySmile

Same here. I ended up not paying full price for anything except a Sleepyhead, which I'm happy about.

I tend to start after 20 weeks for reassurance. But most things I normally buy after 30 weeks unless I see a really good deal before hand!

Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy op!

We will start properly after our anomaly scan but only buy stuff on offer or at a good price.

I will only pay full price for bits when it's right near my due date. Realistically, a newborn doesn't actually need that much.

I've had 3 mcs and I'm 12 weeks pregnant. I'm not buying anything until 30 weeks probably. Couldn't bear to have to return stuff if things didn't work out and don't see the point in storing stuff and wasting the warranties etc before it's even in use.

I'm nearly 35 weeks and I've hardly bought anything. I'm just so anxious about buying stuff this time around. We bought the car seat about 3 weeks ago because I thought that we really should force ourselves to get a move on. But in total I have bought 2 sleepsuits about 7 vests and a pack of wipes to dress and clothe baby! My midwife asked if my hospital bag was packed when I saw her yesterday. She was a little shocked when I laughed and said nope! I've got nothing to put it in it yet!

We're just starting to think about it now we're 18 weeks but i'm not comfortable with making the big investments until i'm more like 24 weeks to be honest.... We have the excuse that we're setting up the rest of our house and the baby's room is last which has been good. We're doing lots of research though right now and are going to take full advantage of the sales in January we think to clean up!

BoredOnMatLeave · 29/09/2017 09:58

We started after anomaly scan and had everything by about 28 weeks, but I wouldn't do that as we could have got things a lot cheaper if we had waited for sales etc.
