Keeping Some Kind of Fitness in Pregnancy

Hiiiii!!

Before I got pregnant, I had just got into running again and was training with the 5K app.

I don't feeling comfortable enough to run now (although I'm definitely getting back on it once I pop)

What else can I do to get a bit of fitness?

Ante-natal swimming and yoga seem like great ideas but they all seem to be during my work hours Hmm

💛 LP xxxx

You can still run/jog, walk, you can just swim at a time that suits you, what's ante-natal swimming?? Swimming is swimming! Do some yoga or pilates at home if you can't make it to classes.

You should keep doing what you were doing before. So if you were doing the C25k before, you should keep doing it.

Research shows it's good for the baby.

And ime, it keeps you strong and fit and means you can cope better with labour and recover quicker afterwards.

@Foggymist and @Sonicboomboom – It’s not that I scared to run, I just generally don’t feel comfortable doing it – everything isn’t so close to my body anymore and there’s a lot of movement (gravity is a b1tch too, I have acquired some mountains on my chest, which used to be so small they barely existed. So I know I would just feel worse off afterward if I actively when for a jog.

I know swimming is swimming, but I just thought it would be nicer to go to an antenatal class where you could do the right things for you current body state – the same with Yoga – I don’t want to be doing things that aren’t necessarily suitable, cause I only have to sneeze or roll over wrong in bed and im pulling my groin muscles.

Plus being around mums to be is a great way to feel comfort as you’re all in the same situation (and I know usually, I would say don’t worry about what other think but we you are pumping hormones round your body, you have no choice in how you feel haha) and also to meet other mummys.

Does that all make sence?

I go to pregnancy yoga and pilates at the weekend and go on walks. i cant manage much more than that - i played a couple of club tennis matches (2 x 3 sets) when I was about 9 weeks and was vomitting in between sets so never again!

I'm a Personal Trainer and always used to run but like you just didn't feel comfortable for some reason. I switched my cardio to walking mainly. But also swimming, I didn't do any classes just went along for half an hour and swam lengths. I have kept up resistance training throughout though xxx

I struggled to find pregnancy yoga classes I could fit in with my work schedule but I would recommend specific pregnancy yoga over normal classes xxx

I was so active before my pregnancy. Working out 3/4 times a week, minimum one hour. Started getting very tired at the 6 week mark and nauseous. Now I just want to lay down every chance I get (12 weeks currently)
