Looking for a bit of advice really. I have hashimotos hypothyroidism, ha d3 Mcs since ds was born, and was on steroids and progesterone until a few weeks ago as a result. I am overweight, being honest here, am 84 kgs and 5'8 butGP and Midwives don't seem bothered by this. I work 4 days a week in fairly intense City job. I am ALWAYS hungry but really do not snack too much. Portions are my issue.

I have been feeling awful the last 3 weeks, thirsty, sleeping 14 hours when I can , ( miracle DH as have a 2 yr old Ds) , pins and needles, headaches from hell etc. Told GP who tested thyroid and was all good.

Had my home birth midwife apt for 16 weeks today, lovely heartbeat etc but tested my pee and the test came back with 2 + ie high blood sugar. So being sent off for a glucose tolerance test urgently.

Does anyone have experience of this so early on? What can I do diet wise in the meantime and how long until I feel better?

help!

I had this and it turned out to be gestational diabetes which is why they are doing the GTT. More advice on www.diabetes.org.uk/diabetes-the-basics/gestational-diabetes/diet-and-lifestyle. Good news is that went away after birth.

I had +++ urine sugars throughout both pregnancies. This time I had GTTs at 13, 22 and 28 weeks. All came back within normal range for the test. I didn't do anything with my diet whilst waiting for results as my consultant felt there was no point until you know what you're dealing with and are being guided by the diabetes midwife.

The test doesn't normally take long to come back so hopefully you'll get a result and some good advice soon

The test will show up if you have gestational diabetes. This is something you do need to know. It's more likely if you're overweight but it's not a given, and plenty of normal weight pregnant women get it too - we don't really understand all the root causes. It usually goes after birth - women who have had GD have a higher chance of t2 diabetes in later life.

The vast majority of cases can be managed really well with diet. A few need drugs. You'd be monitored a bit more as well.

You can look at the diabetes pregnancy diet recommendations - good luck with the test and even if you do have GD it should be well managed if you stick to the diet
