I'm pregnant, for the first time so not really sure what to expect. The nausea has hit big time. I'm 5 +6 today.

Felt fine yesterday (EXHAUSTED but not sick, I cycled the 7 miles home from the station) but I woke up around 1/2am feeling really really sick and was up most of the night feeling sick (wasn't actually sick but feel AWFUL).

Thankfully I have a job where I can work from home a bit, so I'll email my boss and say I am working from home today, but I can't do that every day.

I'm very worried as I am meant to be going abroad on a business trip next week, and the week after I am meant to be speaking at an event...... If I feel the way I do now there is no way I can do those things.

I was hoping not to have to tell my boss I am pregnant just yet (ideally I wanted to wait until 12 week scan) but I'm thinking I might have to.

When did you tell your boss? Would you in my circumstances? My boss is pretty nice btw!

Congratulations

I didn't tell mine until 12 weeks. I really needed to tell them earlier as I had HG and was dreadfully sick. But I knew that if I couldn't carry on, my boss would fire me if she knew I was trying to pregnant.

She was awful throughout.

So it depends on your boss.

I told my boss at 12 weeks. 2 days later I got a written warning for something I hadn't done but couldn't prove that I hadn't done it! Felt like I was walking on eggshells for the rest of my pregnancy, petrified that I'd be sacked for the smallest misdemeanour and worried I'd lose my maternity pay.

I told my boss at 15 weeks as I needed time off for appointments. He's a bit of a twerp so I would've waited until the legal 20 weeks if I had my way

I told mine at 12 weeks after the scan just for health and safety and for when off for appointments.

Last time I told my boss when I needed time off for "an appointment". She asked if anything was wrong (I think she was worried it was stress as things were quite stressful and other staff had been off) so I told her. I told my close colleagues when I started coming in late because of sickness (took me 4 bus journeys some days as kept getting off to be sick!).

This time I told my boss on first day back to school. I told some of my colleagues as we were doing our yearly planning and thought it was only fair to point out that I wouldn't be here for the last term. Not had the same issues over sickness although that might be as I'm now much closer to home.

I told my boss after my 12 week scan.

He spent the next months until I left on maternity leave critiquing everything I ate and drank, commenting on perineal tearing (I had to tell him near the end, after months of refusing to engage with his comments, that I will never be discussing my vagina or perineum with him), and opining on how it's the men who suffer in labour, not the mothers.

I'm just pregnant again and I won't be telling him until the last possible legal moment.

I told mine at 7-8 weeks because of potential risk at work and because I was starting to come in late due to morning sickness and exhaustion.

I had to tell my boss at 6 weeks because I was so sick that I'd been signed off!! I'd only been in the job 5 weeks, soooooo embarrassing. As it turned out, it was the start HG and I needed my boss' support throughout my pregnancy as I'm still ill up to labour. Thankfully she's been great about it all.

If you're feeling poorly and need support, then tell your manager. I asked for it to be kept confidential and didn't tell anyone else at work until after the 12 week scan.

Also if you need time off for appointments (like the 12 week scan), and don't want to use your A/L, your work will need to know. If there's any reason you need an early risk assessment, they'll need to know. Finally, you're only protected as a pregnant women from when your work is notified, so there can be other benefits to telling them early.

I came through it two years ago. My pregnancy was finished last year. I was doing job 9 to 6. In the first trimester, it was too hard to manage for me. I had a long travelling. SO I'm afraid of miscarriage. But thanked it didn't happened. I told my boss in 12 week when I got my scan. I could do work from home but not regular. When I felt fatigue due to travelling I could take off. She gave me too much favour during my whole pregnancy period. I'm really thankful to her. She was nice lady. I done my job till eight and half. Then I took leaves because it was too close to come out my baby.
