Would they be able to tell me the sex of baby at the scan? Becoming an impatient sod! 😂

You can find out from 16 & 3 I believe. I'm exactly the same, I need to know now!

ClaireBear1986 · 25/09/2017 15:48

The private clinics all advertise their gender scans from 16 weeks, so they should be able to.
And the hospital near my parents actually does it from 13 weeks now. Not sure how accurate that would be though.

I am going to wait till 16 weeks, and pay for a gender scan at Mothercare

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 25/09/2017 15:50

I found out at 8 weeks using Harmoni - not in U.K. though. It was a blood test rather than a scan so no doubt. Definitely worth the $$.

FuzzyOwl · 25/09/2017 15:54

Yes, private scan places advertise that they will tell you the sex at 16 weeks. Otherwise you can have a blood test at 10 weeks to check for chromosome abnormalities and included is the baby's sex.

This will be NHS scan at 16+3 😬

Think the NHS wait until 20 weeks

TheCatsMother99 · 25/09/2017 16:05

At 16 weeks you can usually tell.

What's the reason for the NHS scanning you at 16 weeks? As in, is this the anomaly scan they've brought forward?

TheMrs04 · 25/09/2017 16:06

Do you think if I'd ask they'd check? Like they say if you don't ask you'll never get!

I have extra scans in pregnancy and I ask at 16 and 18 weeks and my hospital wouldn't until my 20+ week scan. Had to go privately to know earlier.

TheCatsMother99 · 25/09/2017 16:09

That's what I was thinking Bitchpeas .

Unless it's your anolomly scan they likely won't tell you.

sparechange · 25/09/2017 16:12

I had NHS scans at 14,16 and 18 weeks
At 14 weeks (which was actually nearly15), they gave me an educated which they were 'fairly sure' about.
At 16, they told it was definitely a boy by zooming in on a penis and pointing it out!

ClaireBear1986 · 25/09/2017 16:12

You could always ask, all they can say is no.

My friend asked at her 12 week NHS scan and was told that she was having a little girl.

Her little BOY is now almost 1. So she was pretty surprised when she gave birth!! Ha.

Pigletthedog · 25/09/2017 16:18

I had scan on Friday at 16+5. The sonographer said before she started that there's not always much to see detail-wise on a 16 week scan but once she started she said actually it was really clear.

I asked then if she could see what it was and she said she thought it was a girl but would confirm at 20 weeks. Nothing wrong with asking!

Pigletthedog · 25/09/2017 16:19

Sorry, to be clear, it was an NHS scan due to previous problems

AutumnGlitterBall · 25/09/2017 16:22

Are you sure your hospital will tell you the sex? Mine didn't and has signs up informing you the scans are for dating and anomaly and not to tell you what it is. Slightly annoying, as I'm on the border of two areas and if I'd chosen the other hospital, they would have told me.

Salva91 · 25/09/2017 16:29

You can. But in 16 week, it will not be so clear. I'll advise you to wait for 2-3 weeks. I had my first scan in 5th month. Doctors gave me scan report. I didn't ask for the gender. I left it a surprise. I think it is more surprising when after birth you know about the gender of my baby. My hubby was agree for a gender scan. But I thought it too early. I want to enjoy the moments. It was really beautiful experience for me when immediately after c-section, my doctor told you received a little angel. I really wished for it. I wanted a baby girl who can fill my life with colors.

meltingmarshmallows · 25/09/2017 17:00

I found out at 16 with a private scan. Wasn't sure if 20w scan would have time to tell me and my DH couldn't come, but when there they asked if I'd like to know and confirmed. At my growth scan at 32w the midwife asked if we knew the sex, then asked if we wanted her to confirm which was nice. It was very clear at this point and confirmed what we found out at 16 & 20 weeks.

So yes they can tell, but it's less clear and more dependent on resolution / baby's position. Better idea at 20w.

TheMrs04 · 25/09/2017 17:43

I'll ask and at least they can say no!
I know they would tell me as it's the same hospital I had my little boy at... oh well we shall see!! Xx

I'm impatient too! I'm 10 weeks and still don't have a scan date so maybe they'll. e able to tell by the time I get it.

HailLapin · 25/09/2017 19:35

We had an nhs scan at 16 weeks due to previous spina bifida loss and they were able to see our baby's sex so they told us. They did say they were unable to confirm til 20 weeks though.

Good luck , I hope all is well opSmile
