"The doctor you were booked in with is not allowed to see pregnant women"

Strange question...

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and awaiting referral to physio for spd. The pain has been so bad this weekend that despite paracetamol' fancy pillows etc etc I've had two hours sleep for the past 3 nights and have called in sick to work.

Got an emergency/same day gp appt by calling up at 8am. They told me to come in at 11.

Was just about to leave the house and have a text message from the go surgery asking me to call ASAP.

"We've had to move your appointment to 4pm as the doctor you were booked in with at 11 ... He is not allowed to see pregnant women" the receptionist definitely said HE is not allowed......

I asked why and she could not tell me, just that that's what it said in the notes she was reading out...

So I'll just have to wait for appt but can anyone think why this would be ? Curious...

He might have just come back from holiday somewhere with infectious diseases!

Hope you get some relief soon spd is miserable. Ask your gp if there is any chance of hydrotherapy in your area, it was a godsend in my last pregnancy and was the highlight of my week. Mine was sorted out by my consultant (I had other complications) but I suspect your go could also help.

My DH is a hospital consultant and his colleagues covered all oncalls to the obstetrics wards after we lost our baby so he didn't have to see pregnant women.

It's unlikely that he's not allowed to treat pregnant woman, but ok to practice with others, more that the receptionist isn't allowed to book pregnant woman in to see him!

Possibly a lost child, or as others have said, he could have a child with chicken pox - or a variety of reasons.

So sorry to hear that wonkylegs. I can't imagine anything worse and if it happened to me I couldn't cope with being around pregnant women either.

Thanks for the advice will ask about hydro X

could it also be something hes got from a foregin country or just been in a country at risk for pregnancy harming virus.im just thinking with it just having been the summer hols?
I would like to thinks its something really really small like a cold and that they are just over careful with pregnant mothers.and passing on any thing even tiny chance.
ask when you go and let us nosy(ok me nosy) people no...?

I think that it was just awkward wording. Most likely a personal reason, or maybe he has a history of being rude to pregnant women and the partners want to avoid loosing him as a result of complaints?

I don't know how zika works but maybe he's just been on holiday to one of the countries where its a risk factor.

Well, went to docs and saw a really nice man who signed me off for a week without me even asking. Also prescribed codeine which I'd really rather not take but i suppose they are there for emergencies. The only other Dr. that was in this afternoon was a 60+ woman - so I really have no idea what happened this morning!

TBH the receptionist shouldn't really have said "he's not allowed to see pregnant women" - that sounds like a breach of privacy to me. She could easily have said "is unable to see you this morning" and carried on with the new arrangements
