Maternity pay HELP

Hi sorry not sure if this is the write place to be posting,

I am due to go on Mat leave on the 15th December 17. I will be getting SMP only, my question is what will be my monthly maternity pay? Reason I'm asking is because I have had quite a lot of time off sick since being pregnant (currently off sick) the joys of pregnancy!!

Now am I right in saying I am currently in my qualifying months for my mat pay? (Months being August & September?)

I get paid the last working day of every month, my take home pay in the month of August was £1079 after tax (£1140 before tax) & I think my take home pay for September is going to be £565 plus ssp after tax (£630 before tax plus ssp)

Sorry if this is confusing, I'm just worried I'm not going to meet the SMP and will end up getting less!!

I understand I should get around £630 a month smp as my weekly wage is greater than the minimum, but will me being off sick in these months affect that with the figures I have provided?

Any help and advice appreciated...

I can't help I'm sorry. I just don't know. Is there any kind of online calculator you can do?

Blueeyes91 · 19/09/2017 16:20

Hey GMccAxo,

There is a calculator on the GOV website that is for employers to use... but you can use it too to get a rough idea of how much you'd expect. It does a break down for each month.

As for the being off sick, it also depends on the company you work for. I'd speak with you HR department and get it all worked out now so you can get past the worrying.

My company are pretty good so my mat pay won't be effected by pregnancy, if I end up poorly 2 weeks before I'm due to start mat leave then I'm to take it early.

Every company is different, but also, it never hurts to ask ;)

Hope you feel better soon! I know the feeling when people tell you, you should be feeling better now. I'd love nothing better than to give them a day in my shoes!

The calculator says these

31 December 2018 £446.66
31 January 2019 £777.70
28 February 2019 £563.92
29 March 2019 £584.06
30 April 2019 £644.48
31 May 2019 £624.34
28 June 2019 £563.92
31 July 2019 £664.62
30 August 2019 £604.20
30 September 2019 £281.96
Total SMP: £5755.86

I'm not sure about sick pay though.

It will be 90% of your average earnings for your last 12 weeks in work or the statutory weekly amount of around 140 I believe whichever is lowest. There should be a calculator on the hmrc website somewhere. The calculation will be based on what you take home so it will include any sick pay.
Hope that helps.

for your last 12 weeks in work

No it won't.

TittyGolightly · 19/09/2017 16:34

You haven't given any of the needed info.

When is your baby due? You need to count back 15 weeks from that date, and then use the gross pay from the 2 pay dates before that date to calculate it.

TittyGolightly · 19/09/2017 16:35

(It's 15 weeks from the Sunday that starts the week your baby is due.)

Due date is essential for the cakes as Titty has said.
