I've tried just not bothering, but my greys are starting to get to me. There's too many to count, too many to pluck.....few enough that my roots are mostly brown (

How far along are you?
I used a nice n easy semi in a well ventilated room in my first trimester after much internet research. And obviously did a patch test even though I had used that brand before.
Since then, I've gone to the hairdresser and had a full permanent colour put on. They were absolutely fine with it as long as I had a patch test and as long as it wasn't bleach (just regular all over colour)

Don't think any are classed as unsafe. NHS says some women may want to wait until after the first trimester but doesn't say it's actually dangerous. Hair can react differently during pregnancy so that's something to be aware of

I bleach my hair blonde every 3-4 months and I'm having my 3rd child and Iv never had any problems with bleaching my hair while pregnant at all, just be careful not to get it on your skin as this might cause an allergic reaction x

Cool, cheers ladies! 😀

Midwife said fine so long as ammonia and peroxide free. I have a box of Garnier Olia knocking around the flat but I've checked and that has ammonia. I'm 4.5 months now so relatively safe I guess....

Will debate whether to go for a salon job or home dye, if so Nice and Easy sounds promising.

Reassurance and tips all gratefully received!

www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/949.aspx?CategoryID=54 - says nothing about avoiding ammonia or peroxide so I think your midwife is misinformed. Olia is fine and I imagine nice and easy will have similar ingredients

Quite a few semi-permanent dyes are ammonia and peroxide free (if you're wanting to stick to that) it's permanent ones that tend to contain these.

I was about to share what dementedpixie has- the official line from the NHS is that there's no evidence to suggest it's not safe (although some like to avoid it in the first trimester out of preference). I'm 37 weeks with my first child and started getting grey hairs when I was 17 so I'm very used to dyeing my hair! I didn't for the first trimester and then tried ammonia free dye but found it didn't actually cover my greys or last beyond a couple of weeks so I've gone back to sparingly using permanent dye every 6-8 weeks. I've actually just bought some so I can have freshly coloured hair as close to due date as possible!

On a relevant side note you might find your hair takes dye differently while pregnant- I've noticed my hair goes much darker than usual so I've reduced the amount of time I leave dye on and opted for lighter shades :) Hope that helps!

My midwife advised there is no problem using my usual home dye as long as I'm in a ventilated room. But I have been using it less frequent throughout my pregnancy (currently 36 weeks).

A life saver for those inbetween times is the L'Oréal Magic Re-touch. I have black hair and it had been an absolute god send!! My grey have never been so long and they are in my parting and very noticeable, but this spray has definitely let me extend the time in between dying by about 3/4 weeks. My friend is using it now after seeing it work too. Definitely one of my pregnancy must haves lol!
