Anterior Placenta?

Hi,

I had a private gender scan last Saturday and the notes given state I have an anterior placenta. As we were only there mainly for the gender scan I didn't question it but am now wondering what it actually means!!

I'm 18+2 with my second DC and have felt a few thumps really low down. It from what I can understand having an anterior placenta means I probably won't feel proper kicks until much later on? I've also found with this pregnancy I've been a lot more "achy" in my lower stomach, where I would think my womb is currently.

The differences in this pregnancy are that I now work in a very low impact job, sitting in an office all day whereas with DC1 I was walking about 2 miles to and from work and on my feet all day working in retail merchandising. I've also lost 7 stone since my first pregnancy so would guess this may make a difference as well?

I don't see my midwife now until November but have my 20+ week scan at the beginning of October so can obviously ask more questions there but just wanted to ask other peoples experiences and views?

It just means that the placenta is at the front so kicks might be a bit muffled. I could still feel them though.

Mines anterior and I've felt plenty of kicks.

Mine is anterior and I only really feel kicks lower down or at the sides, and I didn't feel them until later than many other people. Other than that, it's made no difference whatsoever.

Mine's anterior, it took a bit longer to feel movement this time, the first kicks felt more internal and muffled compared to DC1 and DC2. From about 24 weeks I felt 'proper' kicks.

Mine is anterior and low. Didn't feel anything until I was 22 weeks. I find that it feels like I am getting muffled 'thumps' in the middle but I can't feel kicks at the side! Basically my placenta is acting like a cushion at the front!

Usernamegone · 16/09/2017 13:09

Oops meant the say I can feel kicks at the side!

Wow, I'm also 18+2 and have the anterior placenta! Up to now I can feel movements but not on the outside if that makes sense? I also had the anterior placenta with my first dd.

This is my second pregnancy with an anterior placenta. With DS I felt movements round the sides. This time baby is breech & placenta is low so getting lots of movements at the top & middle of my bump, think she's a raver with all the arm flailing that's going on but not really feeling anything low down unless right at the sides. With DS I had my first movements at 18 weeks, this time I was 15 weeks for the first movement but then barely anything else until 20 weeks.

With anterior I felt very little movement until much later and then only at the sides. Made me a bit anxious but he is 12 months now and very healthy and happy.
