Apricots high in vitamin A worried

I'm feeling a bit worried yesterday I ate a whole bag (140g) of whitworths dried apricots without a second thought. Then just now I have opened another packets started eating them and it just caught my eye on the back of the packet it says high in vitamin A. I know too much can lead to birth defects. I'm 36 weeks today. Should I be worried? Thanks for reading

I'm pretty sure at 36 weeks that everything's developed already, and is just growing, so unlikely to cause a birth defect, but check the RDA for vitamin A on the packet, just make sure you're not going over it and you should be fine

My consultant recommended I snack on apricots as they're high in iron and I'm anaemic. He's very cautious generally.

Omg! I've eaten MASSES of dried apricots throughout my pregnancy Shock I didn't know about the vitamin A!

dementedpixie · 14/09/2017 11:53

It's not the same type of vitamin a as that found in meat so stop worrying

Keepkondoing · 14/09/2017 11:54

I remember being told that it was just vitamin a from animals that was the issue not other forms of vitamin a. However I'm pretty sure at 36 weeks would be fine whatever as they are already fully formed.

Its retinol that causes problems whereas fruit and veg contains beta-carotene

Lol, sorry but at 36 weeks I think your baby is fine long ago 'developing' and is now just growing.

When I was pregnant a long time ago we were advised to eat liver once a week. My children are now young adults and are all fine!

TiramisuQueenoftheFaeries · 14/09/2017 12:09

Unless you're mainlining polar bear liver you'll be absolutely fine - and at 36 weeks your baby is long fully developed. If a single packet of apricots was capable of causing birth defects we'd have known about it (and had an apricot embargo) long ago.

I'm the same as a PP, been eating lots throughout pregnancy to help top up low iron (and counteract the effects of the iron tablets!!!) I've eaten bags full of them.
