I'm pregnant with baby#2 and we want to find out the gender but not at the hospital because with baby#1 the lady doing the ultras can was so moody and depressing she ruined the moment so this time my mother in law has planned on throwing us a gender reveal baby shower to make it special. The plan is for her to attend the scan and only her find out after we have left the room and then we find out at the party. I saw my midwife the other day and she said the hospital will not allow this...we are all gutted because she has to travel 200miles for the scan and has already spent a fortune on the party stuff.
The midwife also said they will only tell me not even the dad which I think is strange and I've never heard anything like this before so I'm asking if people have experienced the same issue or if it all seems like bull...?

Someone's I know did this exact thing couple of weeks ago, they took both the grandmothers to be to the scan and only they found out with no issues from sonographer and later that night threw them a gender reveal party. This was NHS in South EAst ESsex. So some will do it .

In our clinic we will happily write it down on paper for you, just let the sonographer know when you turn up.

They won't tell the grandparent it would have to be on paper folded to you then you give it to her :)

Thank you dippingmytoesin and kelly14
I hope so because it would just be so lovely. My mother in law doesn't gett to see us that offer due to the distance between us and she didnt make it to our first baby shower due to that and work so she is so excited to be doing this for us, its like her gift to us. Fingers crossed its not an issue on the day

We weren't sure if we wanted to find out or not so the sonography happily wrote it down & put it in an envelope for us so we could decide later if we wanted to look or not. This was January this year.

My cousin has just done exactly what you're asking, took her mum to the scan, asked the sonography to tell her mum the sex of the baby once her & her partner had left the room, & her mum then went & bought the blue gender reveal thingy
