Tips for clearing nasal congestion - I can't sleep

I'm really bunged up now - not so much my nose but the back of my throat feels like it's constantly full of thick gunge (sorry for the gross details) which is making it very hard to sleep.
I was awake at least every 1/2 hour last night and apparently when I am asleep I'm snoring horribly!
I've tried breathe right nose plasters - keep the nose clear but not the throat and don't help the snoring. I've also tried dd's Olbas oil on a hankie - hasn't helped either.
Any good ideas before I die of sleep deprivation?

Have you tried menthol crystal? can get then from Boots and they are cheap. It helps clears the nose and the flem on the chest, but you only need to put a small amount in the water.

I usually use it if my nose is not fully clear for diving as it does not have any drousy effect, and is ok during pregnancy.

I suffer from this too. You Must try sudafed nasal spray it's fantastic.

I am using sudafed max releif. It is a decongetant with a painkiller and is brilliant. i still feel bunged up with snot though, I will try a nasal spray though

Is it OK during pregnancy Northerner?

Scubamum I'd be happy for it to have a drowsy effect .
Gutted as won't be able to dive this year although have allowed dh to go off for a week once baby is born - I shall retreat to my parents for moral and physical support for the week.

Use lots of pillows to elevate your head - I have to sleep virtually sitting up sometimes if I have a bad cold. Those L shaped pillows are good ( also very useful when breast-feeding in bed)

Sponge - I had this on my first pregnancy. Use a saline nasal spray or drops, completely safe to use in pregnancy. The brand I used was Otrivine, but there are numerous types out there. They are OK for babies to use too. HTH

Try cutting down on your dairy intake for a few days (not cutting it out altogether though) as my dh finds this increases mucus production. And if yo're drinking soya milk, don't as that has the same effect (well, it did on me anyway). From one snorer to another, I hope this helps!
