Hi, I'm due to have an elective c section in two weeks and I'm starting to feel really scared. I'm especially worried about sepsis, blood pressure crashing after the epidural and hemorhaging. I lost a baby at 31 weeks last year and after that it feels like the whole world is unsafe and that things will undoubtably go wrong. Any advice?

I had my DD2 after a loss last year by ELCS. Everything was fine and incredibly relaxed, in recovery breast feeding her within half hour. Had her lunch time Thursday, home Saturday night and Sunday I took my dogs for a short walk. I only lost a tiny minute amount of blood, well within normal range. Also if your blood pressure crashes the anesthetist will be monitoring you and can correct it. Mine began to crash, it was corrected before I was anything other than nauseous. Obviously that's only my experience but I hope it can help calm you a little.
Honestly the thought it so much worse than the event. Most c-sections end in a healthy mother and baby.
My advice would be lots of deep breaths, be gentle with yourself, warm drinks, plenty of sleep and good food, if you are worried give yourself the best chances you can by keeping yourself in the best condition possible. Oh and stay away from google it is not your friend.
Flowers hope all goes well

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I had a medical elected csection just under two years ago. I have to say it was a very calm probably as good as it could be. I was lucky enough to be first on the list. There was a moment that my blood pressure dropped too low but that was about it. Everything else was ok. I found listening to hypno birthing (not for the birthing techniques but for mind focus and positivity) really helped me get through pre op painful bits. Perhaps that could help you relax a bit in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully if you are able to relax things will be easier for you day to day while you wait for your section and meeting your baby. I hope that things go well for you.

I have suffered PTSD for something unrelated but understand that, from a psychological perspective, once the 'bubble' of safety we feel is popped by a traumatic event, it's very difficult to approach other similar events without deep fear.
I would suggest paying for a short course of CBT if you can afford it and there's time to see if this can help you?

You'll be fine. Very best of luck OP Flowers
