Should I go to hospital?

So I'm feeling very confused. Baby seemed a lot quieter this afternoon and didn't get wriggly after I had my lunch like he normally does. I rang the hospital and they said to come in this evening as they were really busy. since then he has moved a bit more. So I'm wondering, should I still go in and get checked? I know it's always best to err on the side of caution but I also really don't want to waste anyone's time and am also aware that going in repeatedly for reduced movement will make it more likely that I'll end up being induced. Obviously I'm totally happy to do this if it is necessary, but I'd like to avoid it if possible.

What are your thoughts?

Just go in, if anything for peace of mind. It's always better to get checked, i went down each time I was worried, on the third time they did mention talking about induction, but that was on my due date and I popped naturally a few days later. Plus better to be induced if movements are quiet than put it off.

I went in a few times for reduced movement, baby ended up being born a few weeks early but they were starting to speak about induction. I would definitely go in in your situation, they ask if you've had a change in the pattern of movements (which you have).

Babyblues14 · 11/09/2017 17:25

I would go in especially as your so far along now so movements are usually pretty regular, mine never stops but I'm 39wks

Happened to me yesterday. Midwife was more than happy for me to go in as she'd rather I be seen than to leave it and find out something was wrong later on. It'll put both you and the midwife at ease of mind. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Jasmine1111 · 11/09/2017 18:52

Go in please xx

TheVanguardSix · 11/09/2017 18:56

Oh yes! If only to sleep easier. You can't put a price on that. This is your most precious little person.

Lj8893 · 11/09/2017 18:59

Yes go in. Reduced movement can be a sign of fetal distress, perhaps caused by a disfuctioning placenta.

Without being crass, it is much better to get checked out with reduced fetal movements than no fetal movements.

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 11/09/2017 19:14

Yeah go in, if anything for peace of mind. This happened to me last week didn't feel anything for a while so called midwife I went in and baby started moving. Reassured me so much. I'm 25 weeks.

RedBlackberries · 11/09/2017 19:15

Always go in. No one will make you think it's been a waste of their time and they'll be as relieved as you to find everything's ok Flowers

georginabray · 11/09/2017 19:21

I've registered with mumsnet purely to write to you and tell you to go in.
Please. No matter how much faff you think it is.
I went in at 37 weeks and two hours later I was holding my baby as it turned out he was distressed and he had to be delivered there and then.
I've never been so pleased that I listened to my instincts rather than worrying about bothering the hospital.
So please go in.
And take your stuff with you xx

Gingernut81 · 11/09/2017 19:25

I got checked out and the staff were lovely, especially when I felt like a complete twit when DD started moving like crazy when I was hooked up to the machine! They told me not to apologise and that's what they're there for. If you're worried just go.

24hoursfliesby · 11/09/2017 19:30

I'm glad everyone had positive experiences. I felt awful when I phoned up twice with reduced movement. The midwives didn't want to see me and put me off coming in. Instead they made me lie down at home and count movements for an hour. I had 4 or 5 movements in an hour when I usually had about 15 but they weren't bothered with the change in pattern and said not to come in.
Luckily everything was fine, but they made me feel like such a time waster phoning them. I thought you should call with reduced movements or a change in pattern but my midwives refused to see me.

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 11/09/2017 19:33

@24hoursfliesby that's terrible! Thankfully your baby was fine.My midwife always says to me to come in if any movements change. Mine was very pleased I went in.

AccrualIntentions · 11/09/2017 19:33

I'd just go in - because I know if was me and I was still worried I wouldn't sleep.

I've only had to go in once (I was still feeling movement but it seemed fainter) and hey reassured me that I'd done absolutely the right thing. Every midwife I've ever seen has been at pains to tell me to call if I'm concerned.

icclemunchy · 11/09/2017 19:41

Always get a change in movement checked. Reduced or increased. 9 times out of 10 it's fine they resume wiggling once your strapped into the monitor but it can be a sign of a problem

I went in a few times with DD1 and all was well. I went in once with reduced movements from DD2 and she was delivered within hours and needed resuscitation. She's a strapping 2yo and jumping on my head rather than sleeping atm but I dread to think if I hadn't gone in

24hoursfliesby · 11/09/2017 20:11

I always phoned up with reduced movement, thinking back I also called once with my first baby, but they wouldn't see me then either. Glad everyone has much more positive experiences than I had. And yes please phone up, that's what they're there for... unless it is my maternity ward which refuses to see you Angry

MsBranwen · 12/09/2017 17:19

Thanks so much for the advice everyone. I went in last night and had CTG, which all seemed fine and the little one started moving after a while on the machine. as this was my second incident I've been referred for a scan too, which will hopefully give more reassurance that baby is healthy... I'd been thinking about going for a private wellbeing scan with doppler etc anyway, so really happy I went in.

so sorry to hear about your experiences though @24hours, that's so dreadful!
