Where to get baby's nursery furniture?

I'm over 30 weeks now and my DNan keeps on at me to get what I want together so she can pay for it! Very kind of her.

I absolutely love the Mama and Papa's Harrow 3 piece set. It's available in Argos and was being sold for £399 until a certain Instagram Mummy posted a nursery reveal. It's now £600 Shock

I'm quite annoyed at the price jump. Can anyone recommend anywhere else that's a lovely price as well as lovely in looks?

I did like Ikea but their set of draws looks odd with the weird changing unit bit. It all just looks a bit incomplete

We got ours from Mothercare, the Lulworth set.

cheerylilthing · 09/09/2017 21:30

You could buy different pieces from different places? We have a moKee cot with drawer, grey ikea drawers & white scandi-esque table from Maisons du Monde. It makes it a little more personal to you then too.

Mamas & Papas do discounts on furniture purchases at their parents to be events (or they used to at least) if you do decide to go for their range.

Buy the Harrow cotbed, then a nice Hemnes chest of white drawers from IKEA. Skip the wardrobe til they get to about 2 or 3. Hanging teeny babygrows etc up is a waste of time in all honesty.

Hemnes drawers

Another vote for hemnes drawers, currently 39 weeks and mine is all sorted. Great for organizing stuff separately. And I did the changing mat on top idea. Shown by Napqueen

That's a hell of a jump! We ordered that set a couple of weeks ago for £399, really glad I ordered it when I did now. Which instagrammer?

silkpyjamasallday · 09/09/2017 22:05

As sweet as all the miniature matching nursery furniture looks, it's a bit of a waste of money to be honest. You will not need a wardrobe for a long time to come, so you might as well wait until your child needs one then get a full sized one that will last their whole lives. As long as you have plenty of drawers you will be sorted. Better to keep the floor space clear (and minimise furniture you have to strap to the walls that could fall) for more play space and space for your baby to practice crawling and walking with less hazards.

I am Shock at the price hike after an Instagram post! It's so blatant. Have you looked to see if anyone is selling the set on eBay? You often find a lot of baby related stuff has never been used, obviously due to over eager buying sprees, and you can reap the benefits.

BlueButTrue · 09/09/2017 22:05

Thank you for the Hemmes recommendation, will it all match nicely though? Having a look now!

Accru I know Sad Such a jump. thehomethatmademe is the name of the ig

Blue we got it in oak rather than white, it's nice but definitely not £600 nice. If I hadn't had some Argos vouchers I probably would have gone the ikea route too and got full sized stuff.

NapQueen · 09/09/2017 22:11

Pretty much all white furniture will look good together. And as important as it seems right now, it truly isnt that important if the cotbed is matt white and the drawers are gloss white or whatever.

BlueButTrue · 09/09/2017 22:11

Thanks for the heads up Accru, not keen on spending the £600!

I've had a look and you cannot buy the Harrow range in separate bits so I can't buy the cot and get Hemmes Ikea draws Sad

NapQueen I'm very particular about presentation so it's something that's very important to me Blush

Little Lucy willow have lovely, well made stuff but I think there prices were going up so may be dear.

bluechameleon · 09/09/2017 22:17

We got ours in Mothercare. DS is 3 and it still looks great so we're about to move it out of his room to use for DC2 due in February.

BlueButTrue · 09/09/2017 22:22

NapQueen Are those draws in the pictures two separate pieces? I can't find the Hemmes range in that size... Seems they've been pushed together to look like one set etc

BlueButTrue · 09/09/2017 22:23

user Those are lovely but quite pricey!

all one, clicky link

JontyDoggle37 · 09/09/2017 22:28

Sainsbury's Homebase - they do 20% off weekends on nursery furniture about once a quarter - we got a lovely cotbed with a. Drawer underneath, wardrobe with drawer and a large chest of drawers with a changing table top, in white for £499. My little boy is now nearly 2.5, it's all lasted really well and the cot converted down really easily into a. Cotbed when he needed it - you have to buy the mattress separately and we got one from John Lewis (again watch out for sales etc)

BlueButTrue · 09/09/2017 22:56

NapQueen Thank you so much for originally suggesting the Hemnes range.

I've gone for the Hemnes set of draws (smaller than the 8 set), the sundvik wardrobe, sundvik cot and mattres.

All done for £370. Thank you Smile

We ordered the m+p range from Argos when it was £400, waited ages for it to be delivered and they ran out of stock and cancelled the order so don't trust that when you have ordered it will definitely arrive! In the end we ordered the 3 piece Kingston set from m+p direct, down from £1400 to around £600 with cash back- it's a good sturdy set that looks lovely, I disagree with not getting a wardrobe- it's good for storage and makes the room complete. Originally I was going to go for Ikea but the drawers are so much stronger in the m+p range (our bedroom furniture is Ikea and the drawer bottoms always bend eventually) this set will last the baby for years to come.

Crispmonster1 · 10/09/2017 07:01

I bought mine on eBay and it's a perfect mamas and papas set.

MrsCharlieD · 10/09/2017 10:11

We have hemnes furniture all over the house, I bloody love that range.

M&p need to be tackled on a 100% price hike. That is absolutely obscene.

Fwiw we have m&p furniture which we've just moved into the nursery for dc2 due next month. In all fairness I wish we'd just bought normal sized stuff originally. We're reusing it because it was ££££ but I'd have much rather bought new hemnes stuff.
