35 weeks, super swollen feet

Hi all.

I am 35+3 weeks, and my feet have swollen up like crazy. First noticed swelling about a week ago, but they seem to be getting worse. I had a midwife appointment on Monday where I mentioned it, and she said as long as my hands and face aren't swollen there shouldn't be an issue.

However they are starting to cause me discomfort, as the folds are rubbing, and fitting shoes on is proving tricky. Up until a week ago I was still exercising a lot etc., but now even walking is starting to prove difficult. Not sure at what point I should perhaps ring the midwife. I am fine otherwise and my husband just finds it funny, but the feet are starting to concern me a bit! Anyone else had the same? I would say they are at least twice the size as normal. And any tips for reducing the swelling?

Thanks in advance Smile

Also should have added my feet are very cold, so slightly worried there might be circulation issues...

It can be a symptom of pre-eclampsia can't it - did your midwife check your blood pressure and urine? And are you feeling otherwise completely well - no headaches, nausea etc?

Like anything else in late pregnancy it seems, if you're worried best call the labour ward and ask them for advice.

Thanks for the reply. Had blood pressure etc checked on Monday and all fine; don't know how quickly those things can change though! They literally didn't seem concerned at all about the feet, just said to watch out for hands and face...is tricky but i guess I should just ring if it bothering me enough to have posted on here!!

I always get puffy feet and ankles at this stage. What they don't tell you is this can be twice as bad after baby is born (I can't remember exactly how long after, roughly 24 hours I believe) as the body tries to disperse excess water after birth. I thought there was something really wrong as I could barely walk comfortably after my second, but the midwife said it was perfectly normal for the swelling to increase after the birth.

Thanks for the reply and reassurance it isn't just me...I went to NCT class today and just assumed everyone else (or at least some) would be having the same problem, and no one was; you could still see all their ankle bones!! But oh no for it being worse after; there is so much no one tells you about being pregnant and giving birth, let alone what happens after Confused
