Car bump. SPD. 29 weeks

I was in a car bump yesterday, I use the term loosely as neither party was going more than 5MPH. Unfortunately the ground was loose and wet, and I was hit from the side back end causing my car to skid out a little.

Damage is minor and i felt fine after... Other than furious that the other driver just took off. DP insisted I get checked over as I have suspected SPD, plus O- blood so our midwife always said any bump to my stomach should be checked. So we trotted off to A&E and ended up there for HOURS. The longer it went on the more pain I felt, to the point I could hardly walk or move my shoulder. Eventually seen by a doctor who confirmed my suspicion that the jerk had "upset" my loose pelvis and I had slight whiplash. Gave me painkillers and sent me on my merry way. I was fighting back tears on the way out the hospital as the pain was so bad walking, but went home and tried to relax.

Now I'm in constant discomfort, walking is a mission and I'm totally over emotional with just how sore everything is, from my hip to pelvis and right up my lower back. Everything clicks and grinds now, not just my hip as before the accident.

The hospital said they couldn't do anything, so I'm now wondering if there's any point calling the GP today? Will I just need to "suck it up" until I get physio that I've referred for?

Can a little bump/jerk make SPD/PGP pain worse, or could I have done something else? The doctor I seen just didn't seem interested. Said they couldn't stay so nothing they could do, kind of just shrugged and sent me off. 😖 I felt like a waste of time.

Wasn't until after I realized that nothing was checked re blood group... No blood tests etc, but baby moving today so assume all is well with them?

I'm just so bloody sore and feeling quite miserable, but also rather ridiculous as the bump was so minor!

Did the impact cause you to hit your stomach?
I would phone your maternity assessment unit or if you don't have one of those the labour ward or delivery suite. It's likely a&e only looked you over physically and not from a pregnancy point of view.
Usually if there has been a potential subsidising event (ie a bump to your stomach) they wpuld want to give you anti-d if your rh -ve.

*sensitising (silly autocorrect)

Just tightening of the seatbelt. I actually got the injection on Tuesday as part of my normal midwife check up. Would I need another?

It also might be worth speaking to your GP/midwife to see if you can get a physio referal.

Hope it settles soon.

Plus I said in A&E I was in to check baby first and foremost, then myself. I actually thought they might have sent me to maternity ward in the same hospital.

Potentially yes.....I would speak to the maternity unit anyway and they will be able to advise you. No harm in speaking to them you can say exactly what happened, impact etc. And they will be able to say whether you would need bloods doing and further anti-d

SS81C · 08/09/2017 11:39

Yeah I'm surprised they didn't to be honest

OnNaturesCourse · 08/09/2017 11:43

Yeah I'll give them a call.

I was just made to feel like a time waster yesterday and I don't want to be that, but better safe than sorry.

They shouldn't do. If there's ever a concern about baby I would always say to phone maternity unit rather than GP/A&E. They can advise you better.
Hope you get a better response from them.

Much better response, and they were horrified that A&E hadn't sent me up yesterday.

They put me on the monitor, gave me the jag and some info on SPD (and how to help it)

Thank you
