Low blood pressure but can't stomach fluid

Hi, I'm 8 weeks today and had my booking appointment with the midwife yesterday who told me that my blood pressure was extremely low. She said that there was nothing that could be done about it at the moment, but to drink lots of fluids.
The problem is, I'm constantly feeling sick and nauseous at the moment so my fluid intake has reduced loads because I feel worse when I drink, more sick and bloated etc.
I'm worried about my low blood pressure and how to feel better because I'm feeling so tired and light headed at the moment

Is that with all fluids? Can you stomach fizzy drinks? Even if you drink nothing but coke for three months that's better than being dehydrated.

Ice lollies?

DeadDoorpost · 07/09/2017 12:00

I second the icelollies suggestion, and add ice cubes as well to the list. What about melon, cucumber, or any fruit that has a high amount of liquids in them? Better than nothing and still healthy. If it's a case of not being able to keep fluids down head to the hospital if it's that bad and let them know about it. They might be able to put you on a drip to get fluid levels back up if that's the problem.

Thanks for the replies. Even fruit seems much too handle right now..the thought of anything watery and bloating makes me feel more naseous. Will keep seeing how I feel and if it's like this tomorrow I might let the midwife know.

Is the low bp causing symptoms? Is it unusually low for you?

Feelingstressed444 · 07/09/2017 14:46

I think I'm generally naseous due to pregnancy symptoms because this is my second pregnancy and I had sickness the first time too.
But I'm feeling alot more light-headed, tired and unsteady on my feet this time which must be the low blood pressure. The midwife said it was very low.

@SpuriouserAndSpuriouser caffeine is thought to be a contributing factor to miscarriage in the early days I'd try steer clear of coke/tea/coffee (or take decaffeinated).
Hopefully you'll feel better @Feelingstressed444 had low bp too with my pregnancy and it's pretty debilitating!! Eat little and often of whatever you can stomach.

I'd carry a drink around with you and take very small sips often, it'll add up to quite a bit but shouldn't make you feel as sick

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 07/09/2017 17:12

Laura yes I know, but a small amount of caffeine is fine. Coca Cola doesn't contain masses of caffeine, and you can get caffeine-free stuff if that was literally all she was drinking.

OP that does all sound a bit worrying. Do you think you are dehydrated? Is your wee are good light yellow or is it darker? I definitely would speak to the midwife if you are still like this tomorrow.

I have naturally very low blood pressure and it drops further in pregnancy. When my sickness was at its peak I could keep any fluids down at all if I drank them. I had to freeze apple juice into ice cubes and then suck the ice cubes as if an amount of fluid hit my stomach it came straight back up, but that was gradual enough to stay down. I also spent a lot of time lay with my feet higher than my head and ate salty foods to raise my blood pressure. You have my sympathy, it really can make you feel rotten. It's very much underestimated as well as no one is interested unless it is high.

I have low BP normally and mine has dipped in pregnancy (86/50-something at my booking app!) I also had bad nausea and struggled with fluids but what others have suggested helped- ice lollies, decaffeinated coke/ other caffeine-free fizzy drinks and small sips of Lucozade. I also found drinking through a straw was a bit better as I wasn't gulping air so didn't feel as sick-y / bloated. Hope some of that helps OP xxx

Mine is 80/50 during pregnancy and I relied on ice lollies and soup a lot for fluids. Keep your temperature steady if you can, avoid extremes of hot and cold and stand up slowly.
