DS due in a couple of weeks. I read that he shouldnt have fleece blankets to sleep as it doesnt help temperarure regulation - so when can they? I have a fleece blanket for the cot bed and a coverlet which says suitable from birth, both of which i would plan to use when hes grown out of his moses basket

I'm not sure I would use either to be honest. Cellular blanket until he's big enough for a sleeping bag. My DS is coming up 7 months and I'm still not confident he would wake and move if something ended up covering his face so he's staying in sleeping bags for the foreseeable!

I wouldn't bother with blankets at all OP. Especially at night time, they'll just get kicked straight off and you'll either be woken by a cold baby or lie there worrying if they're cold because you know they kick blankets off.

Just get sleeping bags, they regulate their temperature and stay firmly on.

I only used blankets to wrap my baby up if I was cuddling him on the sofa.

Ah ok. So i brought one of these coordinating packs which now seems redundant. Can i use the little blanket thing that comes with a moses?

With young babies the main concern is them getting too hot rather than too cold. A good tip is to touch their front or back to check temp not hands and feet.
Like the others I'd use sleeping bags. The gro website has a useful guide to togs and what clothes to wear for the temperature.
DS was in sleeping bags until he outgrew them at around age 2.5 and hes been learning to use covers and sheets this summer. Still kicks them off though! With a baby you'd be putting them back on all the time.

I would recommend sleeping bags or cellular blankets. It's dangerous for babies to get too hot. I found most of the bedding sets to be a complete waste of money as you can't use half the things in there, like cot bumpers and quilts etc.

You can normally find sleeping bags on selling sites and eBay if you have a look, or most of the supermarkets do them. The actual branded Grobags can be quite expensive

Sleeping bags were a god send! Keep the fleecy one for our and about / in the car / playing on etc!

I'd stick with cellular blankets or sleeping bags though in my country they put them under a duvet the day their born (in the hospital even!) but I switched to swaddling in a cellular blanket and then sleeping bags when I got home from the hospital.

Cellular until about 6m then sleeping bags until about 3 yrs old here! The bags help to keep them settled in their beds.

I wouldn't use fleece blankets at all - stick with something with holes in in case it ends up over their face.
