I am 11w today and had the Harmony/NIPT test done this afternoon. Obviously the blood work will take time to come back, but the sonographer could see right away it was twins! Fraternal he thought, as two clear sacs and he thought 2 placentas.

No history of twins in the family that I know of, wasn't feeling particularly worse than with singleton DD....

I don't know what I feel! Fuck, I wanted a home birth. I don't know how we can afford it. What if one of one of them doesn't make it or is poorly? But then, newborn twins..... squeeeee!

Does anybody have any tips or advice?

Congratulations. Flowers Leave the worries, enjoy your pregnancy and all will be fine.

Handsfull13 · 02/09/2017 22:33

Congratulations 💐

We laughed for days after finding out about our twins. Don't get yourself worked up about it. You will be fine and so will they. Just take it day by day.
If you ever want to chat drop me a pm

Congrats OP! I'm 22 weeks with DCDA twins (separate sacs and placentas). It's the safest type of twin pregnancy which is great.

From your mention of home birth it sounds like you're after a natural birth (I also wanted a home birth) so I just wanted to warn you about the "standard procedure" in hospitals you will face - you'll be put under consultant led care and told they will induce at 37 weeks. I was also told they would prefer me to have an epidural and labour in a theatre room. This ISNT something you are obligated to do! After the calm water birth I had with my DD this was my worst nightmare feeling like I had all control taken away from me from the start - I'm perfectly healthy and both babies are perfectly healthy so it seems bizarre to go to such lengths before anything is even indicating a need for intervention.

Long story short, I've been signed off consultant led care and now only have to deal with my (much more supportive) midwives - I've also been given the OK to give birth in the midwife led unit rather than in hospital in a clinical environment with interventions and doctors present.

Obviously if anything goes wrong I would at that point do everything I could for the babies to be out safely! But I have to say I've felt really railroaded so far with my antenatal care to head down a really medicalised path which I really wasn't happy with, especially after having such a smooth, quick and natural labour with my DD.

Hopefully you will get really lovely and supportive consultants (which I didn't have!) and good luck with everything! :)

Yay welcome to the best club in the world! Our twins are 3 months and so much fun!
I managed to have them naturally.. I was induced but managed to have them with assisted delivery.. forceps and ventouse at 36+4.
The feeding was biggest challenge at the beginning but we got into a good routine and even now we stick to this like glue!
If I can help please do pm me

SippingSipsmith · 03/09/2017 06:18

Congrats! I was the same. It's such a shock. Felt much better 20 weeks in and calmed down about it all but wasn't relieved until they both arrived safely.

You'll get extra checks and scans and appointments which I found reassuring.

Despite having a complete panic when I was told the news it's the best club. Congrats and enjoy!

chocolateshortcake · 03/09/2017 06:52

I'm also 22 weeks with dcda twins :) was a total shock but after it wore off (it took a few weeks) we are so excited!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 03/09/2017 07:09

Ooh how exciting. Thanks all.

Yeah the sonographer said he thought 2 placentas so that is good?

I am also concerned about over medicalised birth. I had a home birth with DD, 90 min labour and totally drug free. No way am I labouring on my back in stirrups unless there is a need! There is no mlu at my hosp so we'll see.....

But yeah, eeek! Just hope they are both okay when the bloods come back.

Congratulations!

I'm 10+6 and found out at 7 weeks I'm expecting surprise twins, the shock does go away a littleSmile

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 03/09/2017 07:45

Congrats to you too Sally! So we are almost exactly the same stage. My EDD is currently 26 March - yours?

Congratulations, I'm currently feeding my 2.5 week old twin boys 😊 it's hard work, not gonna lie! But when you look into their eyes it's completely worth it.

Yogagirl123 · 03/09/2017 07:49

Congratulations, I would have loved to have had twins, you lucky thing! Enjoy.

Middleoftheroad · 03/09/2017 07:53

Congratulations! I was in a tailspin for weeks when I found out so I understand your panic.

Was told that as im 5ft 2 they would come early - I had them at 39 weeks, planned section. I swear they would have stayed in longer!

I fretted throughout, and would scare myself with online stories - so please just try to enjoy. It will all fall into place.

They are now 11 and have proven to be great friends. Good luck!

Sallywiththegoodhurrr · 03/09/2017 08:30

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff I'm the 26th too!

bambi2908 · 03/09/2017 09:23

Congratulations! I'm 37+1 with DCDA twins and being induced tomorrow ❤️

EddChinasVagina · 03/09/2017 10:06

@Middleoftheroad wow that's good going. I was told I wouldn't be allowed to exceed 36-37 weeks and I was glad because I was definitely ready by 35 weeks!!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 03/09/2017 10:29

Oh how cool Sally!

Congratulations bambi, how are you feeling?

OP posts:
Middleoftheroad · 03/09/2017 10:43

Edd - I could not walk! Grin My bump was about 5ft2 like my height. I was like a spacehopper!

Every day was like a year but guessing now it sounds like 37 weeks is standard unless the little tykes decide otherwise.

Good luck all with your new babies and pregnancies

bambi2908 · 03/09/2017 12:26

@JohnnyMcGrath not feeling too bad! Very heavy and fairly uncomfortable but I don't feel like they would be coming anytime soon if they were left to their own devices!
My consultant said 38 weeks was the max they would let me go, but just so happened to have a free slot this coming Monday so that's when they booked me in for. I'm just pleased we made it this far, and they are good sizes too, estimated at 6 + 7 lb 😅

neversleepagain · 03/09/2017 18:25

Congratulations!

It is such a shock, isn't it? I was 13 weeks when we found out and I was in disbelief for weeks. My dcda girls are turning 5 this month and starting school on Thursday!
