Pregnancy from pull out method

Just a bit curious really, been having a discussion with a friend who is baffled she got pregnant via pull out, despite me saying it's extremely likely!
I thought I'd post and see what others think about how very possible it is!

TMI here but she said he would 'finish' elsewhere then just pop it straight back in, so I said obviously he's still going to have come in his pipes!

I can't believe I just typed that

Anyone here pregnant from the same method? She said she was 'baffled' because so many people struggle with proper TTC and yet this has happened. (they're both extremely happy about it and the baby is very much wanted so no problems!)

Very intriguing Grin

Your friend is a dill.

She's right though, considering how hard it is for quite a lot of people to fall pregnant, and the low chance that anyone has of falling each month (even if you time things perfectly it's only about 25%), anyone falling pregnant by accident is either incredibly lucky or unlucky, depending on how they feel about it.

KingLooieCatz · 02/09/2017 08:34

Are there proper grown ups who believe pull out is an actual method? Surely it's something daft lads say and no one falls for it in this day and age?

sprite25 · 02/09/2017 08:37

It's very naive of people to think this is a form of contraception, sperm can leak out before a man orgasms and like you say will still be around afterwards. It's a shame that in this day and age people are still so ill informed that they rely on this.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/09/2017 08:37

Good Lord, the pair of them can't have had any basic biology lessons at all!

TheKidsAreTakingMySanity · 02/09/2017 08:41

It's worrying that there are no basic common sense or intelligence tests required before people can create babies who depend on them for their very survival.

MeriWitch · 02/09/2017 08:48

Totally agree with all of you! I couldn't believe a grown woman believed it couldnt get her pregnant.
Tbf I was quite upset she was so flippant about it all. It took me 7 months to fall pregnant with my DS which I know isn't long compared to a lot of TTC stories but it felt like forever, to have someone dismiss it really got under my skin.

I couldn't believe she didn't think she could become pregnant when he actually finished then went straight back in. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

The mind boggles!

If you don't use PROPER forms of contraception don't be surprised if you find out you are pregnant. Even people using sufficient protection can still have a chance of pregnancy. Hmm

AccrualIntentions · 02/09/2017 08:50

She's an idiot. And yes, it's one of the great unfairnesses of life that some people can get pregnant so easily while others struggle so much.

fessmess · 02/09/2017 08:54

My dd recently had a termination using this "method".

ferrier · 02/09/2017 08:56

Properly done it can be very reliable. But putting 'it' back in afterwards is not properly done!

thingymaboob · 02/09/2017 08:58

@ferrier no, it can't be reliable! Do you know the meaning of the word "reliable"?

PollytheDolly · 02/09/2017 08:59

One of my good friends has two DDs by this "method".

MeriWitch · 02/09/2017 08:59

I know Hannabee - it isn't me haha.

I've told her to do some major research and make sure she gets on bloody contraception after the baby's born. Madness!

Was she asleep in sex ed classes?

flumpybear · 02/09/2017 09:00

Numpty springs to mind HmmConfused

thingymaboob · 02/09/2017 09:01

This is the definition of reliable from the dictionary "consistently good in quality or performance; able to be trusted."

Not a definition I would associate with pulling out! What an obsurd thing to say!

RiseToday · 02/09/2017 09:17

Why would he pop it back in after he's finished? Surely it would be all flaccid Confused grim....

ferrier · 02/09/2017 09:49

I know the meaning of the word reliable!
Had 3 dcs all conceived within a couple of months of not using pull out. Have used the method for 20 years now and not otherwise conceived. So very reliable when done properly.

newbian · 02/09/2017 09:53

ferrier are you talking about fertility awareness? Pull out can be more reliable if you use it with cycle timing but if you use pull out while ovulating I don't see how that's anything but sexual Russian roulette!

MamaOfTwos · 02/09/2017 10:11

I'm 8 weeks of with our withdrawal baby, but we said if it happened it's fine. It's not at all reliable

MeriWitch · 02/09/2017 11:43

I agree it's absolutely not reliable! Just like to point out this isn't me haha!

risetoday I don't know about her partner but mine can go 2/3 times in one session so isn't flacid immediately.

Definitely agree about it being sexual roulette Grin

Well, men don't go flaccid immediately, do they? I don't suppose he's waiting ten minutes and then re entering!

thingymaboob · 02/09/2017 17:34

@ferrier I hope you don't work in sexual health or pass that "wisdom" onto your own children.

TallulahBetty · 02/09/2017 17:41

I hate when people call this a 'method'. It's nothing of the sort.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 02/09/2017 17:43

Yes it's a contraceptive method. It's not great but it's a whole lot better than nothing - over a year it's the difference between "probably won't get pregnant" and "probably will".

However only the terminally naive would think sticking it back in afterwards was a reasonable thing to do and then be surprised by failure. I'm surprised she has the nous to cross the road safely.
