Moving house during pregnancy

Hello! New to Mumsnet today and hoping for a bit of advice...

I'm 27+3 (FTM), currently living in London and due to give birth at St Thomas'. However, we are about to exchange on our house sale, completing mid-Sept, after which we're moving to North Yorkshire.

Does anyone have any advice on how to go about changing to a hospital in a different part of the country? Is it as simple as changing GP and leaving it in their hands? What happens to my maternity record (currently a St Thomas' one but I don't know if they're all the same)?

Apologies if this is posted under the wrong topic, hopefully someone could give me some guidance if so!

Thank you! :)

Where I am, you register at the new GP's and tell them you're pregnant at the same time. I think then they gave me the midwives number that I called to register and then on my first appointment with my new midwives, I took my old notes. They had to copy all the information from one set of notes to another but, other than that, it was pretty straightforward.

Thank you so much, that's really helpful. I'll contact the new GP and get the ball rolling!

I have just moved house a long distance away and Pickled Sarnie is exactly right.

The only extra thing I'd mention is that I had to have all my blood tests again because I didn't have a hard copy of the original tests - my new MW the notes in my green form weren't enough. If I'd known I might have asked my original MW to see if she could get a hard copy before I'd moved.

I was in B'ham and everything was very efficient e.g. appt letters for scans came out within a week even though they were months away - but where I have moved to doesn't seem the same and I've not had the same response time. As a result I've not cancelled my B'ham appts for later in the year just yet in case Grin but I know I am probably being paranoid.

Thank you runnerbean. I'll make sure all the blood test results are on the file then, for the sake of my veins!! :)

I've just been through this as moved from London to Wales. It's been more straightforward than I thought it would be! I couldn't register with the GP until I had actually moved. However, this was quick and they got me referred to the midwife straightaway. Midwife came to the house to rebook me. I was 17 weeks when I moved and they even managed to get me booked for my 20 week scan at the right time. There's been a few things I've had to repeat like the booking and bloods etc but it just feels like I'm being very thoroughly looked after! Good luck with the move!

We moved a week before I gave birth...I just turned up at the hospital in labour!

Thanks beewales, this is very reassuring :) Really pleased to hear it's gone smoothly for you, and that you're being well looked after.

I moved the other way, Yorkshire to London. I registered at the go the day after we moved in, and they made my midwife apt for me in reception on the way out. Was very straightforward.
Good luck with the move!

We have just exchanged, I called my new gp surgery as my next midwife appt should be in 4 weeks and we're not moving in until the 18th but they said I need to take in proof of address at the New house before I can register, hopefully I'll get something in the post pretty quickly after moving in I can use!

Good luck with the move Smile
