Do I remember people talking about this a few weeks back? Did anyone come up with a diagnosis or solution? because if this continues my poor LO is going to be one deprived baby!

Hi there. I have big probs with itchy nips and have been shoving vasaline on them, which has helped loads. Although I still have to wap them out every now and then to have a good scratch but moisturising does work

My MW said it's because they are getting bigger thats all really. Same as reason for me itchy belly.

phdlife · 02/04/2007 09:50

have tried all sorts of moisturising (my MW said olive oil) but nothing helps except ICE. which is fine except in middle of night!

plus I think there's something else going on. skin doesn't look right. think I'm just going to have to see stupid dr

If you are concerned, trust your instincts and see your GP. Just the funny skin that makes me concerned.

I hope your ok Will your try and get an appointment today?

phdlife · 02/04/2007 10:00

have already seen GP once - she said I had exczema, then prescribed a cream that said (a) do not use when pregnant (I was 34 weeks, she knew) AND
(b) do not use on exczema

and not today either - if you haven't booked by 9am you're stuffed.

so going to see GP doesn't make me feel any better IFYSWIM!

Let me know how you get on. Mine are also itching and also look very dry and a little flaky (lovely). I was wondering if I had overmoisturised them - I have been slathering the bio-oil all over but haven't over the past few days, so wondering if I have created a monster... Worried about how they're going to stand up to bf-ing at this rate!

asur · 02/04/2007 19:09

Don't have any practical advice but thought this might make give you hope... I had painful/itchy nipples for what felt like most of my pregnancy - ended up flaky and at a few times bled because I'd scratched them so much! Anyway, got better a fews weeks before DS arrived and I'm still breastfeeding at nearly 11months

I started a thread on this a few weeks ago and you have my sympathy!

Mine are still very itchy but been slapping on loads of E45 which seems to call them down a bit.

It's misery isn't it.

i'm 34 weeks now too

phdlife · 03/04/2007 09:47

oh well good to know I am not alone - and thanks for hope Asur.

Cyee I don't think you can over-moisturise, in fact FWIW I didn't find the bio-oil enough for the nipple (good for stretchy-skin itch tho!). I've been using a lanolin-based cream, the dr said some ppl are allergic to lanolin (it's in E45 too, Sheep) but it's the only thing that works for me in that area. That and ice.

Thanks phdlife. A great lanolin-free... or paraffin free.. can't remember! cream is Oilatum cream. My DH has it and I think it's great. He gets it on perscription and now I'm going to use it for my own purposes Apparently anyone with an E45 issue can use this stuff, as the chemist did say E45 disagrees with some people.

Wishing all our breasts ongoing health!

Hi all. Just wanted to add a sufferer to the itchy nip syndrome. I have scratched mine raw (TMI) and then someone on here said to wet tissues with cold water and stuff in the bra which helps. I also think I have moisturised too much as despite slathering on Sanctuary Mum To Be body cream, they are all dry and cracked. Other tip - avoid lacy bras, as the itch spreads!
