Too early to be ectopic?

I found out I was pregnant a couple of days ago since then I've been stressing out (I know I shouldnt) because I keep getting this uncomfortable quick feeling on my left side by my hip. I also had a very achey left shoulder and after googling was wondering if it could be ectopic? I called my Dr today to tell them about the pregnancy & mentioned my concerns to him he said its too early to be ectopic (Last period started on 19th july; 32 day cycle ...?) & to take paracetamol. He said maybe my left ovary is supporting my pregnancy, does anyone know what this means or experienced an ectopic pregnancy?

It's not too early to be ectopic, but it is too early to get any symptoms from an ectopic pregnancy. Dr is probably referring to the corpus luteum being on the left side.

Can you self refer to early pregnancy unit? I know some hospitals you can

Hopeful2102 · 30/08/2017 01:25

That's what he said apparently it would be way too small for me too feel anything but this feeling is so weird it's not like a period cramp just literally uncomfortable on the left side. The ache in my left shoulder went away earlier and only slightly aches now. What is a corpus luteum? Maybe I'm just worrying too much?

I'm not sure about self referral all of this is new to me, I just want everything to be okay

A corpus luteum is what remains of the egg follicle. When I had an ectopic pregnancy the shoulder pain was intense rather than an ache.

You can't self refer, it's too early. It all sounds perfectly normal, you should step away from google.

Sorry to hear that indulgentberries did you have any other symptoms?

Maybe I should grandolejuke, I just don't really have anyone to talk to so Google is my best option.

Just the shoulder pain until I started bleeding, then it was like prune juice and I had horrible pain in my side, about 8/10.

I had asymmetrical pain with this pregnancy and went to my obstetrician for a scan circa 6 weeks. It wasn't ectopic and the pain was put down to the corpus luteum. This is my third baby and 5th pregnancy and I didn't remember the pain from previous pregnancies but I am away from home now and wasn't sure on the procedure of things so was probably much more anxious in general. I had pain but no bleeding and once it was confirmed as non-ectopic I relaxed and the pain didn't bother me as much.

I'd just go for a private scan. You're 6 weeks now so they'd be able to see the sac and the fetal pole or yolk or something so would be clearly able to tell if it's ectopic or not.

lightcola · 30/08/2017 04:52

I had a ruptured corpus luteum at 5 weeks. It was pretty horrific. They couldn't see a pregnancy sac at that stage but the scan showed internal bleeding. I would keep an eye on the pain and if it worsens see your dr again.

WhoWants2Know · 30/08/2017 04:55

I had an ectopic pregnancy, which I didn't know about until I had been bleeding/ prune juiceish for more than 6 weeks. I thought it was a rogue period until I had intense pain every time I had wind or bowel movement. That would have been at about 10-12 weeks.

SandBlue · 30/08/2017 05:29

6 weeks pregnant??? Not to early for symptoms of ectopic. I was an emergency admission for surgery at 6 weeks.
However, uncomfortable and achy are not words I'd use to describe things.

indulgentberries · 30/08/2017 06:58

If you have a scan do bear in mind that they might see nothing or they might see what looks like an empty sac at this stage of pregnancy; it doesn't necessarily mean there isn't a viable pregnancy.
