Waters gone - waiting game!

I'm 38 weeks tomorrow with 3rd baby and waters went this morning at 6am. GBS positive so have to stay in ward and I've had IV antibiotics. No contractions yet and will be induced after 24 hrs.
Have sent DH home with a list of jobs as wasn't expecting an early one after two late babies!!

Who wants to keep me company?! Bloody hate the wards and I'm all lonesome.

Any stories of how long it took to have contractions after waters breaking (I'm a bit worried that I can't really get out a lot and don't have a ball so might take longer?) and any third baby stories to help me pass the time will be especially welcome 🙂

My waters broke with my second and third. With my second I had strong contractions coming every five minutes within about twenty minutes. Baby was born less than 3 hours after waters broke!

With my third, waters broke maybe about 8pm. Got contractions coming every 8-10 minutes within half an hour again. Managed to get some sleep as they slowed down and eased off a bit after a couple of hours. I woke up and pottered round the house about 3.30 and put on two loads of washing, ate some toast and by about 5 decided I could do with a tad more pain relief than Warburtons orange fruit loaf! Made it to hospital half an hour later and baby was born after two pushes at 7.30. My midwife was delighted that it was just at handover so she had got the birth but could get away home leaving the clearing up to the new shift!

Baby 1: 41 weeks. contractions after about four hours, all finished ten hours later.

Baby 2: 39weeks. contractions on and off (ugh), active labour started 36 hours after waters broke. All finished 3 hours after that.

Are you IVd for the duration? Can you walk around much? You're so nearly there!

Bananamama1213 · 29/08/2017 13:32

Oh that's so exciting!! Good luck!! I hope you're not waiting too long!

My waters broke when I was 39+6 with my first and he was born 20 minutes after arriving at hospital! But the full labour was 5 hours. I had only been 3/5ths engaged 2 hours prior to them breaking so he was in a rush!

Second child, 11 days late and labour was 36 hours. She arrived 80 minutes after they broke my waters (I went from 4-10 very quickly haha)

It took 12 hours for contractions to start after waters breaking for me. Try and stay active; bounce on a ball or lean on the end of the bed and rock your hips side to side. You want to get the babies head rubbing on that cervix and getting dilation going.

Thanks, just been walking around and climbing up stairs. Not attached to IV all the time just for about 20 mins every 4 hrs. Still no movement 😬 Really hoping to still have a fairly natural birth in the midwife unit and not be induced.
DH back with supplies!

Goodluck OP Flowers am here if required

ThirdAugustBaby · 30/08/2017 09:31

Not in labour and as over 24 hrs I am now waiting to be moved to delivery centre to be induced. Oh shit not what I wanted 😢 Do I go for an epidural or try gas and air first?! How bad will it be?

Don't panic. I've had two "natural" births and two inductions not that much different. The contractions get going quite quickly on the drip they turn it up every hour to intensify them. I started with g and a and just went with the flow. Then pains got too intense for me so I ask her not to increase the drip again until I had an epidural in place. I had some diamophine while I was waiting. They felt very controlled and I had a midwife in the room all the time which was reassuring.
Good luck you will be having lovely new born cuddles very soon!!

Afreshstartplease · 30/08/2017 09:43

Ive heard if you have given birth before induction is usually not too bad as your body remembers

My third was in my arms five hours after first contaction. Not induced though

shamoffour · 30/08/2017 09:54

Oh I didn't see it was your third baby. It will fly out! Are they going to try a propess first or are they going straight for the drip?

Lemondrop99 · 30/08/2017 11:29

My SIL tried the drip without the epidural, but ended up needing one and wished she taken it earlier. She said if she ever needed the drip again, she'd just take the epidural up front. Just sharing in case it helps. Hope all goes well.

Thank you! just an update (especially if anyone is googling this in the future worried like me!) - I went for the wait and see option and was induced at 11.30am and our baby boy was born just after 8.30pm! Was a nice slow build up and didn't find it too bad, just like normal labour really and so managed to do it all on just breathing and then gas & air a little later on which was what I was hoping for! Also managed to remain active up until I needed gas & air as was attached to the wall. I did go from 7cm to baby in arms in under 40 mins though so quite a full on ending!

Baby is fine now but did have a little scare and had to spend the night on the neonatal ward so it just goes to show however they arrive it's the end result of a healthy baby that is the most important thing!
