DD is 14 months and I 14 weeks gone (I think!) I am having real trouble sleeping, first I can't fall asleep and then I wake up every morning at around 4 and can't get back off agin, it is starting to really hurt me as I can't nap during the day like I could with DD.

Any home remedies that I can use while PG? I'll try anything and report back to let you know if they work!

The only time I have been like this was when I had insomnia and I had to take mega strength sleeping tablets to help.

I really do feel for you, especially with a 14 month old!

Looking forward to hearing if anybody has any ideas that will help - I'm falling asleep on the settee at about 9pm (if I go up to bed, I've got no chance of getting to sleep) and then waking up at midnight, then I can't sleep at all. I generally drop off anywhere between 2.30 and 4.30am but I have to get up at 6.30am. Its not as bad as you poor thing but I'd also appreciate knowing if anybody has managed to overcome this...

I really sypathise with you. I'm am sleeping so badly at the moment as I'm so uncomfortable. But I've been sleeping badly for weeks now, and the discomfort is more recent. Before I was just sleeping so lightly, I couldn't make it through the night.

A solution which I thought about but haven't tried yet is putting talking books onto an MP3 player and playing that when I wake up (doesn't help now as I'm just in so much pain!) but it might help you drift off. I know it's a cliche too but do you lie in bed willing yourself to get to sleep. I usually do, but a couple of days ago I got up for an hour, had a cup of tea and went back to bed and that actually helped.

Hope you get some sleep soon. It makes you absolutely manic!

Am going to try warm milk before bed tonight I think but it has never worked before! Warm bath didn't work last night. Small glass of wine didn't work night before!

I have had insomnia many times over the years when stressed so my room has no tv, no books, nothing but clothes and a bed so I know that isn't it!

Anyone else know of anything stronger I can take/do while preggers?

I'm on the april antenatal thread and one of us on there got some flower essences from (i think) a homeopath for sleeplessness and it really helped her. Sorry, can't remember who it was, but do remember that it worked for her and helped her sleep and they are safe to take during pregnancy. I've got some from a reflexologist to take during labour as well.

Also, when I was struggling to sleep earlier on in pregnancy I found the days I went a walk in the fresh air I slept better than the days I didn't.

Hope you find some solution that works for you whatever that it. xx

My friend lent me a relaxation tape (can't remember what it was called), which I used to play at bedtime. It always did the trick - I always fell asleep listening to it!
May be worth a try.

I've had the same problem for weeks - nothing seemed to help until I spent last weekend away from home in a very soft bed, and it made all the difference - I slept solidly through 2 nights. Has made me think about getting a maternity pillow - has anyone tried them and are any better than others, there seem to be a lot of different shapes to choose from ...
