Palpitations

I know I'm being neurotic. I know I'm over thinking it. I had palpitations in my last pregnancy that were investigated and there were no underlying causes and they were harmless. Currently pregnant again (19weeks) and have palpitations again that feel like they could knock me sideways. No other ill effects just worried. Would you go back to doctors/midwife?

I'm having the same (I'm 30 weeks)
In previous pregnancies I had them too and they never were anything(24 hr ecg investigated), but yesterday I had some which lasted forever and really scared me...
Whenever I ask the midwife she says it's because of extra blood, and I get passed off with an 'it's normal'

Feel like I should mention it again though Sad sorry I have no answers!!

Book an appointment with the GP. I have/ had them from time to time and at the moment they think it's SVT (NHS website has a good page on it) it might be something you have? Or have you been anxious at all?Smile

aims nails it. I've had super ventricular tachycardia (SVT) and it's not common but it's totally non life threatening.

However in my first pregnancy I ended up on beta blockers (no real help) and this time round when I get an attack it lasts so briefly but FUCK am I exhausted after. It gets worse as the weeks go on and then baby comes out and...poof...normal service is resumed.

SVT isn't to be dismissed but it's not to be feared. Are your attacks lasting in excess of one minute? Do they hurt? Do you feel buggered after like you've ran a marathon?

Top tip: when you get an attack, stop it by crouching down and tense your abdomen like you're doing a poo. I pretend I have a stone in my shoe. I probably look like I'm doing a poo on the floor. Swings and roundabouts eh?

Palpitations are scary if you don't know them and they come on in pregnancy. Carrying a baby is a stress test for the body and any unusual development should be taken seriously - see your GP.

You could ring pregnancy assessment unit just to get some advice/reassurance? They might want you to just go in for an ecg/bloods or from your history be happy to advise you appropriately

Thank you so much for your replies! Smile yes would say these are lasting more than a minute but not tired or anything after. Have had ECG and echo before and nothing came up. Had a look at that SVT, I'm not sure it would be that as they are more like really powerful heart beats if that makes sense ? Like I can feel every lub-dub for ages. I am at work over the weekend think I will get in with GP/community midwife (whoever is available first) next week, or if I get worse I'll ring MAU. Thank you so much ladies xxxxxxxxx

I've also had a lot of stress at work - had to put in a grievance, move branches etc - that and growing a new life - probably not a surprise that I'm having palpitations! Xxx

I've been having palpitations since about 15weeks daily and almost 20weeks now but getting worse. Discussed it with consultant at work and I've had a load of bloods done which showed mild anaemia and having EVG, 24hr tape and ECHO. Apparently may need betablockers. They make me really short of breath and dizzy. Horrible.
