Retroverted uterus and scans?

I went for a private scan at 6+3 and had an external scan, saw baby and all was ok.
I was booked for a scan for today (9+4) and when I went in, ended up having to have an internal scan due to a retroverted uterus.

Does anyone know why this would have happened between the 2 appointments?
Does it mean that at my 12 week scan, I will need an internal too?

My second pregnancy I had a retroverted uterus but they didn't need to do internal scans at all. I think the baby was always visible and there just was no need. But it's made no difference in any way, shape, or form, which I am told isn't always the case. So maybe I was just lucky. Sorry I don't have any more information than that. Hopefully someone else will have.

When I went for a very early scan a very silly doctor told me I wasn't even pregnant...i Have retroverted uterus and I was later informed during reassurance scan at EPU that with some women a pregnancy is more difficult to see during the scan...

I've got a retroverted uterus and always had external scans, I think it depends on where the foetus is lying.
After a certain number of weeks your uterus corrects itself and flips forwards apparently

I had to have internal scans early on but 12 week was fine with just drinking the pint of water before.
You still may need one. You may not.

I had a retroverted uterus at 8w and had an internal scan. 12w and 20w scan were abdominal and fine. I assume as your uterus grows it comes more forward so baby is easier to see

Mine is very retroverted. When I needed an early scan it was transvaginal but by 12 weeks an external scan was fine.

I have a retroverted uterus and my 12 week scan was just a normal one with no problems. I think it makes it harder to see when you're only a few weeks pregnant, hence needing an internal scan at that point, but by 12 weeks it is much easier to see things.

I have a retroverted, heart shaped uterus. I had an internal scan at 7+3 and all others were abdominal. At 10 weeks it was still a bit difficult to get the measurements but they managed and we got a clear view eventually with a bit of manoeuvring on my part.
After 11-12 weeks your uterus should pop forward allowing a better view of your baby.
They always ask me to arch my back and put my fist on my tail bone for the earlier scans.

By the way OP if you get up one morning and can't wee, go straight to hospital to be catheterised- happened to me and my sister, both with retroverted uteruses, at a certain stage of growth the uterus can sit on a tube and block it. Not very common I think but happened to both of us.

Has it happened to anyone else on here? I didn't realise there were so many of us with tilted uteruses (uterii?)

Retro uterus - as I like to think of it - is actually pretty common. My GP said something like 5% of women. Dunno if that is right. Anyhow as others have said, it normally flips forward after the first tri or thereabouts. I had 5 totally normal abdominal scans with DD at 12, 13, 20, 33 and 37w.

It was probably more to do with the skill of the sonographer than anything else tbh. I have a quite severely tilted uterus and sometimes I had to have internals and sometimes not. Wouldn't worry about it, the uterus corrects itself as the pregnancy progresses anyway due to weight of baby (so I was told anyway) and it's of no significance during pregnancy/labour. Just remembered my dating scan at 13+1 also ended up being internal as he couldn't still get the nt measurements!

I went in at 6 weeks and had to have an internal but by 9 weeks was external and I have a retroverted uterus. I think it just depends on what your uterus is doing at the time :)
