Private Scan

I can't do the date that the early pregnancy unit has offered, when they called me I had to walk away from my desk to speak to them and booked a day that I can't do. On the phone they said that it was only appointment that week and I can't get hold of them now, just answer phone.

I have found a private scan option, are they any good? and if they find any issues will the early pregnancy unit take their scan onboard for follow up?

It depends on how early in your pregnancy it is. Sometimes, if it is too early they may not pick
up on the heartbeat and make you wait for another week or so to rescan. I would try to reschedule first.

8 weeks

Why are you being seen at early pregnancy clinic if you don't mind me asking?

FiveStarService · 24/08/2017 21:36

A heartbeat should be visible from after 6 weeks. If the private scan did show up something you should let the other clinic know so they can offer you the appropriate care.

thingymaboob There can be many reasons why someone would get an early scan. Examples such as a history of mc/bleed in early pregnancy/checking viability of a pregnancy/unplanned pregnancy while on certain medicines/previous problems in pregnancy.

Exactly what Fivestarservice said. I had an 8 week private scan and it was brilliant, but I did do my research and check they were legitimate etc as well as look at reviews.

I distinctly remember in the paperwork that I signed beforehand something about how they would get in touch with the relevant gp or hospital if there was anything amiss. Thankfully there wasn't and instead they did a very thorough scan, videoed it and recorded the sound of the heartbeat for me to take home. Really professional and they explained everything really well and answered all my worried questions!

Good luck, hope it goes well for you x

@FiveStarService yes I know but I was wondering if it were for reassurance / viability purposes, a private scan might be fine but if they were assessing something which may need ongoing care, the early pregnancy clinic might be more appropriate.

Re private scan & issues. I had an early scan at 9 weeks and it was found to be a molar. Fortunately, the gynae consultant was working in the private hospital that day so I met him and he explained everything. Aside from that, the scan place will be connected to a hospital and they will ring their EPU and make a referral for you if there are any problems. It was all really smooth and probably easier than if it had been in the actual hospital scan dept!
Good luck x

I have had miscarriages, been seen at EPUs and had a private scan too. I remember them saying stupid private scan that they would refer me back to EPU / GP if they found anything as they could only scan, not take hcgs which would need repeating every 48 hours or so.

*stupid private scan - autocorrect
It should have said "should the private scan have found anything, they would refer me"
