I'm really keen to get one (due in October) but I've heard that different babies suit different slings so it might be worth holding out until the little one is here and then trying a few out at a sling library to see what suits you both best - I think that is what I'll do

PotteringAlong · 23/08/2017 19:29

I agree - google your local sling library! They will probably have a meet up and you can go and try them out.

The link is a list of sling libraries and their email addresses.

Meant to add - i have carried all 3 of mine in a sling from about a week old and still carry the younger 2 (nearly 3 and 6 months) now.

Stretchy wraps for when they were younger (had a wuti wrap for the last one - a bit weird material but I liked it!), then connecta's, baby and toddler now. I might own 3 connectas Blush

I've also got a boba air which is tiny and great for out and about.

Tumilnaughts · 23/08/2017 19:33

Yes to sling library as it gives you flexibility. Saying that I've had a cheap stretchy wrap, a bamboo Mobi, a handwoven wrap and the ergo baby. We've loved them all and all have different uses. So if you're like me you'll end up with a variety. 😁

Sling libraries are great and there are some online ones if you don't have any close by. I loved my Hana stretchy wrap for around the house in the early months. I love my Lillibaby for later and out and about. Use it loads for my 21 month old (daily) and can still carry my almost four year old on the rare occasion I need to.

Callamia · 23/08/2017 19:54

I'm using an ergo and a woven wrap for my newborn right now. The newborn insert for the ergo is v useful.

MrsCharlieD · 23/08/2017 19:55

Close caboo for newborn and then the tula with insert if required. I was still carry ds in the tula at 2 years old.

GreenGoblin0 · 23/08/2017 20:04

close caboo from new born. really easy to use. still using it at 20 weeks. then either an ergo baby or boba 3g/4G for when a bit older

DuggeeHugs · 23/08/2017 20:24

I'm switching between an Amazonas wrap and the BabyBjörn sling with 5 week old DD. I used both of these, a Tula sling and a LittleLife rucksack carrier with DS until he was 18 months old. Would still be now but I've not had the post-CS ok for lifting a 2 year old yet!

BrawneLamia · 23/08/2017 20:29

You can visit the sling library while still pregnant to get an idea of what might suit you, it might be worth doing as it can take a few weeks to make it out of the house after the baby is born.

I would probably buy a stretchy wrap for a newborn, like a close caboo, as they are easy to use and seem to suit most people. When the baby gets too big for it then it is the perfect time to visit the sling library as there are lots of options for slightly bigger babies and it is worth trying a few before you buy.

Ikabod · 23/08/2017 20:34

I have the Ergo 360 for Dd1 and have just bought the infant insert for when DC2 comes along in Sept. I've never used it as a back carrier (we have a little life backpack thing for that, but I loved carrying Dd1 around in the Ergo - comfy for both of us Smile

flutterby12 · 23/08/2017 20:40

Close Caboo until DS was 4ish months then I got a Connecta - they've gone bust though and a new company are bringing a similar one out called the Integra I think. It's the same woman who had Connecta apparently.

TriJo · 24/08/2017 10:13

I used a stretchy wrap until my son was around 5 months old, then used a Connecta (for me) and a Manduca (for my husband) after that. He's 17 months now and he's outgrown the baby size Connecta but is still fine in the Manduca.

KatharinaRosalie · 24/08/2017 10:17

I found stretchy wrap (moby) best for newborns - as they are so floppy, it holds them nice and close. Ergo baby later.
But as others have said, go and try them out - different slings and carriers suit different people.

icclemunchy · 24/08/2017 10:19

Deff find your local sling library. They can show you how to put it on too Smile

We usually recommend stretchy wraps for newborns and we offer 6weeks free hire for babies under 6weeks. I know a lot of other libraries offer similar so worth checking them out now.

Lillygreen · 24/08/2017 10:33

I tried the stretchy sling and a strappy carrier, both were uncomfortable with a heavy baby.

This carrier has a (detachable) seat the baby sits on. It puts the baby's weight/pressure onto your hips and pelvis which is so much better than on your shoulders/back like all other carriers. The baby can be sat facing forward or towards your chest (no issues with forward facing like other carriers as the baby's weight is fully supported by the seat)

The seat can also be worn without the carrying straps, which is handy for quick trips around the garden, house e.t.c!
