Exercise - struggling

Is anyone else struggling with exercise?! I consider myself pretty fit but am finding I'm really struggling when it comes to my work outs. I'm only 9 weeks but find I'm getting out of breath so quickly! Ive scaled my work outs back a lot - I'm focusing on very low weights and just body weight. I know I'm pregnant and should expect that it gets tougher but I really struggle with my mental health and exercise really helps me. Has anyone else out there been able to keep up with similar work outs to what they were doing pre preg? I thought I'd be able to carry on with spin but right now that seems completely unrealistic seeing as currently having a 'break' lying on the gym floor out of breath after 10 lunges Blush!!

First trimester I really struggled with energy but then it got much better and I was able to get back to my normal workouts. I managed to continue with modifications up to 39.5 weeks. Now 40+6 and still trying to do a little something everyday but lots of pelvic pressure makes it more difficult.

Hi OP, don't be hard on yourself. The first Tri is such a bitch to get through. I am 40 weeks today and still exercising! So it can be done. However I gave up spin class and running about 18 weeks as both gave me bad cramping. I did a 45min strength workout yesterday and went for an hour walk today. I'll admit I'm pretty slow now, but have kept it up. It's quite normal for the breathless feeling, I felt that way upon finding out about the pregnancy, so very early days. Just keep up with it as long as you can, you won't regret it xx

I'm 9 weeks too and finding exactly the same. I'm running sooooo slowly and finding it really frustrating. I've also had to reduce distance a bit as I'm finding it so tiring. Another annoying thing is that I usually run in the evenings but thats when my sickness tends to kick in so I don't really feel up to it. I've been trying to give myself a bit of a break, walk the dog if I can't run and am just hoping the second trimester is easier! I hope it gets easier for you too aeyszm

I'm 15 weeks and still finding it difficult. I was absolutely pancaked during the first trimester and my buggy Parkrun time has gone from 27 minutes to 34 minutes. Doing my best to get out and run but it isn't easy, particularly with a rather active toddler!

First trimester is awful - I had to stop running as I just felt so heavy and out of breath all the time. Even gentle barre/yoga stuff hurt.

Magically at 14 weeks I started to feel a lot more normal. I am now over 16 weeks and I am back running and pretty much doing my usual yoga/barre/pump stuff.

I did some low level cardio stuff in the weeks I felt awful. Helped to keep a base level of fitness up. Hang in there!

Wave to Trijo!!

Don't worry right now, the first trimester is the worst. I was the same in my first pregnancy, gutted that I went from regularly exercising for my mental health too feeling exhausted after barely moving. But after the first 12/13 weeks I got a real surge of energy and was completely back to myself, waking up at 6am to exercise before work and I continued this until the end of the pregnancy. Try and focus on the bigger picture once the first trimester is out of the way x

I managed to keep up with my workouts through the first trimester (massively scare for safety of course) and found it did really help me feel less crap. But some days I just found it tough so modified a workout even more or just took the dogs for a few miles walking instead. Just a case of listening to your body, people always remind me I'm growing a human so don't be hard on yourself if you can't make it to the gym! Congrats on your pregnancy as well!

@owl1011 - I second that exercise in the first Tri actually helped with my horrid morning sickness. Even just 20mins or a walk. It is all beneficial and helpful. :)

Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond, you've made me feel much better. I've done a long dog walk today and given the gym a rest as I feel shattered! I will try to listen to my body more. Congrats to all of you guys x

I'm 10+6 and just started today to do exercise with a personal trainer as I'm getting married in a year and there's only 6 months between birth and wedding so trying for damage limitation and toning. I'm panicking that I'm doing the right thing to start exercising and I'm feeling exhausted post my 45 min work out!!
