i'm 34 weeks and my baby is getting hiccups a lot, 2 or 3 times a day. Anything sets them off, if I eat or move quick seems to be the favourite.

I'm just worried that its not normal.. the amount i mean. I do remember dd getting loads of hiccups but this one is even worse

haha, yes DS did. I remember he would always get them just as I lay down in bed for the night too.

I wouldn't worry

bunnypeculiar · 30/03/2007 21:35

ahhh, ds did this - at least 2/3 x a day - and was very hiccup-y as a new born too... but otherwise normal-ish!

Hulababy · 30/03/2007 21:35

DD always had lots of hiccups. She used to get thm as a newborn too.

Malaleche · 30/03/2007 21:36

DD2 did it more than DD1 .....I think....

Nikki76 · 30/03/2007 21:37

Yup! My DS had them nearly every day and even now - he's 10mths, he is a hiccupy baby! Bless him!

sheepgomeep · 30/03/2007 21:38

aww thanks not the only one then

Ds would hiccup in utero all the time (it felt like, anyway). I remember once being about 38 weeks and he had his sixth bout of hiccups that day - and I just said very loudly "Oh FGS stop drinking the bloody stuff!"

This one hiccups too - not had any today but three bouts in one day is not unusual (and I'm only 24 weeks atm)!

sheepgomeep · 30/03/2007 21:46

lol miaou !

It well puts me off when i'm driving though

I remeber dd usually got them at night and i'd end up pacing the house trying to stop them.. she used to hiccup for ages

Mine was the same. I thought He (turned out to be she) was going to give him/herself whipash banging his/her head on my pelvis all day

Miaou · 30/03/2007 21:57

Ooooh yes me too - I do a lot of driving atm (dh lost his licence) and driving when your middle is going kaboom every three seconds is not to be recommended

PelvicfloornomoreChocolate · 30/03/2007 21:59

Yes both my dd's had hiccups and dd2 still continued to hiccup after she was born.
I used to find it quite reassuring, loud noise often set them off.

expatinscotland · 30/03/2007 22:01

Both had loads! So strong we could see them through my bump.

They both also had tons of hiccups as newborns.

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 30/03/2007 22:03

Also was very hioccuppy as newborns...

feetheart · 30/03/2007 22:07

DD had them a lot. Used to look REALLY weird when I was in the bath

pooka · 30/03/2007 22:07

both of mine used to get massive hiccups in utero.

Spidermama · 30/03/2007 22:08

It is normal and fine. It can be alarming can't it as it's such a big jerky movement.

chacha3 · 30/03/2007 22:18

all three of my girls used to have hiccups inside the womb specially my oldest daughter nearly everyday! wouldnt worry about it hun its common and normal!

jabuti · 31/03/2007 11:33

and how do you know the unborn baby is having hiccups? how does it feel? im 22 weeks now, and im just wondering...

saralou100 · 31/03/2007 11:47

crazy midwife told my sister it's to do with their diaphragm and stretching it.. oh i can't properly remember now.. no idea if it's true either!

ds2 had lots of hiccups... he still gets them lots now, they make him smile

jabuti · 31/03/2007 11:49

but how does it feel for the mom sara?

Mrsjaffabiffa · 31/03/2007 11:51

Sheepgomeep, I'm 33 weeks and this little monster is very hicupy too. Infact it has them now, Ouch!! So was ds, and dd it's normal, don't worry. They are practising the swallowing reflex, they are just preparing to be great munchers in the future.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 31/03/2007 11:54

jabuti, If your baby is head down it will feel like a little knock every few seconds in your bits. This one is breech at the moment so I feel them under my ribs. It's very soft and doesn't hurt, it feels like a little drum beating in time. 22 weeks is probably a little early to feel them. 28 weeks + is more likely. IMO

PippiLangstrump · 31/03/2007 12:03

she's out now but DD used to do it all the time. and she kept doing afterward as well.

jabuti · 31/03/2007 12:10

ha! thanx Mrsjaffabiffa, sounds sweet, i hope my baby does that in the upcoming weeks!
