We're 14 weeks today - and to spread the cost we'd like to start gathering items soon! But how soon is too soon?

I'd go easy on clothes and only but really special pieces that you love.

Since hitting 30 weeks I have suddenly received unexpected hand me downs galores. Literally ended up with about 4 bin bags full of clothes (and that's only 0-3 and 3-6 months), and from unexpected sources like a friend's husband's sister! On top of that, I had a surprise baby shower and ended up with an unbelievable amount of clothes from that too.

People have also given/loaned us a Next 2 Me crib, bouncer, poddle pod, Moses basket, bumboo seat and more.

So just bare in mind that you might buy lots of stuff early but then people may try to give you lots of things later.

So today I had an impulse bug to buy something.. 11.2 weeks. Got a microwave sterilser, electric steriliser, most of the bottles.. Dint know why I just ' had' to.

Unfortunately I'm one of those if it's in my head I have to do it or I will literally lose sleep over it.

Oh and got a food/ bottle warmer. ( given to me from a friend)

I started buying little bits of things around 10 weeks. Literally like tiny things, such as nail flippers, new born hair brush, cotton Wool, a couple of hats, bibs, socks and mits. Then after my 12 week scan started buying vests and baby grows and a few packs of nappies here and there.
Hope this helps! I bought my pram and cot after my 20 week scan xxx

I'm 20+6 and bought a few little bits of clothes after the 12 week scan. At 19 weeks I out shopping and they had a baby event so I picked a few bits up their because they were cheap and then after our 20 weeks scan I excitedly bought some pink stuff because we found out it was a girl (I have a son atm) and we bought the pushchair after the 20 week scan too. We wasnt planning to and this was only because we got it for a bargain. £850 reduced to £250 because it was an old colour.
So basically after 12 weeks I've been picking up bits that seemed cheap and some exciting little bits. Once you're past 12 weeks it can't hurt getting bits in over a period of time. I quite like seeing it all start to mount up over time.

20 weeks - after the anomaly scan

Holz657 · 24/08/2017 15:18

I bought our first wee outfit just after 12 week scan. Started buying bigger things after 20 week scan d

We bought the nursery furniture and pram system thing quite early when they were on sale and had just stored them.

At 36+3 we've not got anything major left to buy, we need nappies and I have a few nursing bras on order otherwise I'll need to do a big shop and sort the freezer out. I'm glad we did it all so early cos I'd hate to be trawling the shops and setting up flat pack stuff now.

I'm trying to hold off as long as possible, so my rule is January sales.

After years of thinking we were never going to have a baby, the amount of little bits and bobs I've got in boxes in the loft is embaressing, but it got me past some dark days.

As we will be given a lot from a relative second hand, I think saving up and then enjoying a splurge on the bits and bobs you really need will be best for us.

Having said that, if I saw something gorgeous and had the spare cash I can't say I'd have much will power.
