Dying your hair

I know posts like this have been done, but some are quite ancient, so there goes another one!

A lot of people mention in general mention the dye should not be touching the scalp, but I die hair at home and usually after mixing the dye with perioxide, I put it on like a shampoo and massage it in, so it most definitely touches the skin. I have small patches where white hair grow out on the front of my head as well, so very visible and not very pretty.

I am not that fond of an idea of highlights, and also I have been using the same hair dye for ages, in a colour I love and got a lot of compliments on, and it lasts forever, have not found anything similar in any stores here (in UK they only sell those dyes to professional hairdressers, so I have been getting it from abroad).

Finally, hairdressers in my area are so expensive, and I just can't justify/afford paying for both a cut and hair highlights on very long hair.

Now what I am interested in is whether there is official advice on this from midwife/doctor etc, as google is a scary place when you look for advice on anything related to pregnancy. The only thing I could think of is to try to adapt my 'technique' to try to use the brush and not touch the skin and rinse off quickly- any other advice?

I have dyed my hair several times since I've been pregnant. My midwife advised it was absolutely fine to do so, the only issue is that your hair may take the dye differently to usual due to hormonal changes.

Btw I was thinking of oxidant emulsion in my previous post.

NotQuiteJustYet- thank you. I will do a new test patch to make sure I have not developed an allergy to the dye, and fingers crossed :)

I've dyed my hair with a brown myself and recently had highlights done during this pregnancy. Just make sure you patch test and you should be fine.

I have also dyed my hair several times at home throughout my pregnancy but brunette not blonde. I think some times there are too many things that you would do normally in life that have negative side effects that your pressurised into changing when pregnant.

I've done my own with a box dye a few times. I read that it's not so much the chemicals on your skin but the fumes so make sure the room is well ventilated.

NHS seems to say it's OK

Definitely do a sensitivity test though!

I waited until I was 12 weeks to do mine. My spotty, greasy, bloated, vomity appearance was making me so miserable it was for the good of my mental health tbh!
