Flying in first trimester

Hello and happy Friday!

We have a week's holiday booked in a few weeks time. I'm now 8+5ish based on most recent scan so at the time of flying will be about 10+5 on way out and 11+5 way back.

I wasn't too worried as had checked online and NHS said it was safe, but since then a couple of people have asked if I can and it's got me worried.

I've found articles that say big studies or not they believe it can lead to miscarriage.

Has anyone else flown in first twelve weeks, and WWYD?

Thanks

In fact it's a couple of weeks time!

It's fine.

ButtHoleinOne · 18/08/2017 18:13

It's fine. HOWEVER it can really exacerbate morning sickness.

People believe all kinds of rubbish can lead to miscarriage. In some cultures people believe sitting on a cold floor can cause miscarriage (and that fans can kill you).

You'll never do anything if you worry about everything. There's no evidence or theory that says there's any danger. Thousands of women in their first trimester fly every day. Go.

I flew a total of 8 times in my first trimester (long and short haul). It's absolutely fine.

Topsyloulou · 18/08/2017 18:22

I did 11 hours long haul when I was 6 weeks & back again at 8 weeks. Other than making the morning sickness far worse in the way back it was fine. Enjoy the holiday!

Yep. I did. And I'd had heavy bleeding earlier in the first tri and was being monitored by the EPU. Nobody suggested flying would be a problem. I fly quite a lot for work so the baby clocked up quite a few air miles in utero.

I flew to Spain when I was 11 weeks and back again at 12. All went well.
My doctor said they prefer to wait till after 12 weeks but it shouldn't be a problem as long as I was going somewhere with good facilities and health care etc

I brought lots of cream crackers as they were the only thing that would settle my nausea but thankfully didn't need many
I did find traveling WAY more tiring though

Yes, trips to Miami, Delhi, Barcelona and Amsterdam. Possibly Moscow but can't remember. It's fine.
Have fun!

I flew from Manchester to las vagas via New York. I had motion sickness as well as morning sickness at the time and I felt better flying!

mummabear17 · 18/08/2017 20:44

I flew at 12 weeks and all was fine, checked with doctor and midwife and everyone said it was no problem at all. Enjoy your holiday!

Glovebug · 18/08/2017 21:33

I flew long haul at about 8 weeks. Felt horribly sick but no issues otherwise

foxfox · 18/08/2017 23:08

I'm cabin crew, and didn't know I was pregnant until I was 16 weeks (long story). I flew 8+ hour flights on average three times a week. My toddler is just fine. Drink TONS of water and move about as much as you can. It's fine.

I flew to Oz when oh with dd2.

Go enjoy yourself 🌞
