Urgent referral to feral medicine

I Went for my 20 weeks scan today and Baby's abdomen was measuring a month ahead and was full of fluid, and legs were measuring 2 weeks behind.
I've an urgent referral to fetal medicine tomorrow for a more detailed scan and possible further testing.
Has anyone had this or any knowledge about it?
I wasn't told a lot whilst I was there and was just told tomorrow I should hopefully get plenty of answers after the Scan.
It also says on the scan notes that the sonographer couldn't access the heart properly. Although it does say all 4 chambers of the heart were seen.

We were referred to FMC due to an abdominal cyst seen at 20wk scan. We were seen a week later, and had a thorough examination with a very good consultant.

For us, the outcome was ok. The cyst was not connected to anything important (cord, organs - it was just somewhere in the bowel), and was only fluid filled (didn't have its own blood supply). We were then monitored for cyst growth. In the end, the cyst burst of its own accord, and by 36weeks, we were discharged from fetal medicine.

I hope it goes well for you. You're definitely going to the right place.

We were referred to FMU at 20 week scan too, although because they weren't happy with bubs' heart. They though the aorta and pulmonary were on the same side.

Thankfully, after 3 different consultants (baby was in an awful scan position), we had the all clear and he is fine.

Sending lots of love, I know how terrifying and heartbreaking it is to be referred - thinking of you and hope you get the answers you need and want ASAP x

Bumping for you xx

I read your post yesterday but never got round to replying. How did you get on today OP?

midnightflowers · 21/08/2017 10:15

Hazydays thankyou for asking!
I ended up having an amniocentesis and baby had to have a blood transfusion. He's been diagnosed with hydrops fetalis and has very short arms and legs (measuring way under the chart) Sad going back on Wednesday for another ultrasound and possible transfusion again.
Consultants are hoping it's from a virus called parvovirus (slapcheek) and will be reversible, but having to wait 2 weeks for the amnio results. Although I think some will be back by Wednesday. Smile

Good luck on Wednesday.
That is absolutely incredible that they can do a blood transfusion. I can't imagine how that is done. Are you ok yourself?? I hope you are not in any pain.

I'm so glad that they are taking such good care of you and I wanted to wish you and your baby all the very best x

Thankyou lucky!
I'm absolutely fine in myself (apart from sick with worry!) felt a bit battered and bruised over the weekend but back to normal today.
They used a needle along with the amnio needle to inject blood straight into baby's cord and kept testing his blood until his iron levels had improved! Incredible what they can do now, And didn't take longer than 10/15 minutes!
Will update on Wednesday Smile

Glad to hear you're being looked after midnightflowers It must be worrying but that's amazing they have been able to give baby a blood transfusion! Wishing you all the best & good luck for your results x
