Suzpod vs Chico Next to me

So we've decided we would like one of the above and can't decide between them... any experience/recommendations that folk can share? Neitehr is overly cheap so we want to get it right!

Thanks

I had a Chico next to me and loved it.

Cupcakegirl13 · 17/08/2017 10:35

Chicco next to me is bigger so lasts longer and you can fit the sleepyhead in it if that's an issue

RogerLimasOldestDreadlock · 17/08/2017 10:40

We had a SnuzPod and loved it.

It was narrower than the chicco and the mattress went higher, which were the main points for us and worth checking.

welshweasel · 17/08/2017 10:48

We had a snuzpod. Smaller than the next to me which may be a plus or not! You can fit. Sleepyhead in both. I liked the idea that you could take the top bit off and move it round the house but we never bothered as we just used the sleepyhead. Ditto when we went away.

In retrospect I probably wouldn't buy a snuzpod again (although we did sell it for over half what we paid for it on eBay), I think I'd have bought a small Ikea cot and taken a side off and used that. We moved DS into his own room at 7 months because he grew out of the snuzpod but it would have been helpful to be able to have him in our room for longer than that.

redfragglebiker · 17/08/2017 10:58

@cupcakegirl13 - Did you find the sleepyhead worth it? I keep seeing them recommended but they're so expensive!

Sleepyhead hands down the best baby item we bought (followed by the Ikea high chair and my wrap sling).

Icantthinkofastupidname · 17/08/2017 11:21

I had me heart set on a snuzpod but now I'm not sure it's worth the price tag for how long (s)he will be in it.

Any other recommendations for bedside sleeping that's easy to take baby out of for night feeds?

Also anyone looking at a sleepyhead but are put off by the price tag, Aldi have something similar in their baby event for £20. www.aldi.co.uk/mamia-baby-snuggle-nest/p/078480156256300

welshweasel · 17/08/2017 11:22

The Aldi one is not approved for overnight sleep, as far as I know only the sleepyhead is. I'd spend money on the sleepyhead over the snuzpod any day. Have you looked at renting a bednest?

redfragglebiker · 17/08/2017 11:37

Thanks so much for all the comments so far - Looks like I'm investing in a sleepyhead!
We did look at renting the Bednest but we'd ideally like to have more than one tiny human so figured we might be as well buying. Family have offerd to help out with various things , one lot want to buy the pram, the other side the crib etc so we are incredibly lucky on that front.
Thanks to everyone who's contributed so far. I was slightly erring towards the chico before I posted and still am tbh.

I don't have one myself but I once saw on here that the chicco next to me is not suitable for divan style beds, as the feet are longer than the actual crib and so if they can't fit underneath the bed, there would be a gap, iyswim. In case that might be relevant to you?

NC1990 · 17/08/2017 14:01

We have the Snuzpod (although our baby isn't due till November so can't comment on it's usefulness as of yet). We looked at renting but it works out about the same price as just buying one if you have plan to have more than one child.

I liked the Chicco as well but chose the Snuzpod because you can take the bassinet part off, and you can put the mesh side up and down while attached to the bed whereas with the Chicco I don't think you can. The mattress is also much softer on the Snuzpod, although that may not be such an issue if you plan to use a Sleepyhead too (which I think we'll do).

moofaced · 17/08/2017 14:03

Have you looked at the tutti bambini cozee sleepers in mothercare? Similar to the next to me but slightly wider etc.

Sunshinegirl82 · 17/08/2017 16:05

We had a Snuzpod (with sleepyhead inside) and it was great. We have limited space in our room so needed something narrow, the next to me wouldn't fit. If space isn't an issue have a look at taking a side off an IKEA gulliver cot and using that. If you google there are blogs that show you how to do it. Cheaper than a special bedside cot and will last longer if you want to keep baby in with you for a bit. I would have done this at the outset but not enough room!

Cupcakegirl13 · 17/08/2017 17:27

I would highly recommend the sleepy head my only regret was I didn't get one until my Velcro DD was 6 weeks old , it's not a miracle bed in as much that she still woke in the night but she slept in it consistently instead of only on us and it's portable - I was dubious about spending over £100 on what is essentially a peice of foam and wadding but hands down the best baby product we had !

fatfingeredfran · 17/08/2017 17:39

Also worth considering is the Bednest - it's much cheaper as it's a rental, but with a brand new mattress. Comes with new sheets etc too and about £85 all in (£40 rental of frame and then £45 ish for buying the new mattress and sheets package).

chocolatesa · 17/08/2017 17:53

We have the next to me with a sleepyhead in. Would highly recommend both. My LO got a cold at two weeks old ☹️ and the next to me was great because you can tilt the head end higher than the foot end. Every little helps when they literally can't have anything (except a nose spray.)

RogerLimasOldestDreadlock · 17/08/2017 18:01

We used our SnuzPod for a year (way beyond recommended) and DC2 is BIG (85th centile). It's narrow, but enough space for him.

We did use the top part downstairs in the early days, and we did take the top part with us on weekend trips.

We didn't use a sleepyhead at all, but did find swaddle pods (we used woombie) were amazing in the early months.

I've been pleased by how sturdy the SnuzPod is. And the base folds up for storage. So it's now waiting for DSis to hurry up and procreate!

silkpyjamasallday · 17/08/2017 18:03

We had a snuzpod, but ended up cosleeping properly within a few months, if I had my time again I would just have taken the side off a normal cot and pushed it up to the bed. We are giving it to our friend who is due in December.

If you want a sleepyhead, but don't like the price, you can get a similar product called a 'purflo nest' for so so much less and it is essentially exactly the same as the extortionate sleepyhead. We had one and it was great, you can get them on amazon.

woundedbutwalking · 17/08/2017 19:33

I'm in the lucky position of having been lent both! The chicco is much bigger than the snuz pod so it will last longer & the feet do bend back, but with this arrangement it's not possible to move easily. The snuz pod looks much nicer IMO but at 6 weeks my DD is already looking big in it! The top section is far too heavy for me to move around on its own, but the sled style feet make it really easy to slide along the carpet. HTH

redfragglebiker · 21/08/2017 10:04

Hi guys - OP here - Just wanted to say thanks for all the feedback. We've gone for the Chico next to me. We also have gone for the Purflo nest (thanks to @silkpyjamasallday ) for the recommendation on that one.
Due end of Novemeber, trying to move house in between now and then too! Time just seems to be racing.
