20 week pain and no movement

Hi all,

Just worrying a little. I'm 19+4 with my first baby. I had a 16 wk private scan 4 weeks ago and all was ok but I'm just worrying because everyone keeps telling me I should be feeling movements but I don't think I have. Last week I think I felt a slight 'flutter' but other than that nothing Confused on top of that I've got these weird pulling pains really low down, seems to be worse when I sit up and stand up, does this sound normal?

Just to add - I'm awaiting a date for my 20 week scan so unsure when exactly this will be. Was booked for yesterday but to cut a long story short, I was left sitting there for 3 hours despite going up to reception every hour to enquire about the wait to be fobbed off. By the time anyone listened to me, all the sonographers had gone home and it turned out they hadn't booked me in properly! Hmm that hasn't helped my anxiety!

Thanks all for any advice xx

My midwife said first time mums generally start to movement between 20 and 24 weeks so I wouldn't worry yourself too much. The pains sound round ligament pains. Is it mostly when you change position?

Hannah91x · 15/08/2017 21:21

@Snoozlecorn thanks for your reply, yes and also when I sneeze I get a very sharp pain in my lower stomach x

Hi Hannah!
Just want to say I'm 19+1 with twins and I get them pains too, I sneeze a lot and it kills!! Like you say really pulls!! I've felt a tiny bit of movement, only from the lower twin which has a posterior placenta, which as far as I know means you are more likely to feel more movement, my upper twin has a anterior placenta and I haven't felt that one, do you know where your babies placenta is situated? Because that could be a factor. Hopefully your scan will be soon to put your mind at rest x

Sounds totally normal. Well at least this is what I was like at 20 weeks. Keep an eye on the pains because it could be PGP (pelvic girdle pain) and mention it to your midwife. It's nothing to worry about but there are things you can do to help the pain. Also could just be stretching pains - I had them a lot around then.

Also don't worry about movements, you'll feel them soon enough. I first felt my boy move when I was busy at work and hadn't chance to worry about it that day.

But definitely talk to your midwife! No concern is too daft it's always better to talk it through if it's worrying you =]

OutComeTheWolves · 15/08/2017 23:19

I didn't feel my first move until I was 24 weeks so don't worry there. And I used to get this pain that felt like my ovaries were stretching! Apparently that's normal too.

I'm 22 weeks and get low tummy pain if I walk too fast or stand up too quickly. Pretty sure it's ligaments.

In your notes, does it say where your placenta is? They found I had an anterior placenta at my 20 week scan and wrote it on my notes but didn't tell me directly.

newbian · 16/08/2017 07:20

I have an anterior placenta with this pregnancy and I feel hardly any movement compared to DD. Maybe check your notes and try to find out where yours is.

Bisquick · 16/08/2017 07:23

I was like you at my 20 week scan a week ago. Suddenly after the scan started feeling a lot more movement, and another lady in my antenatal group said the same thing. Second pregnancy for me (where you expect to feel movement much sooner) and still didn't really feel anything until 21 weeks (when I had scan). Most first timers start to feel movements 22-24 weeks or so.

Good luck! Hope you get booked in for your scan soon! Flowers

Thank you for all the replies everyone, they have made me feel much better. I checked my notes last night and my placenta is anterior, so I guess that's why I've not felt much movement! They didn't mention it to me though. Hopefully I'll start to feel movements soon!

Got a call today saying they can scan me tomorrow evening, so that's good.

Thanks everyone and good luck with everything xx

Hannah, they didn't mention it to me and tbh, I'd never heard of it so the word meant nothing even when I saw it. I think they should mention what it is rather than just write it down as until I found out, I was getting more and more anxious. Anyway, my anterior placenta was so placed that I felt hardly any movement all pregnancy.

meltingmarshmallows · 16/08/2017 16:33

My placenta is not (can't spell it ... Anterior?) and I didn't feel movement until around 23-24 weeks so don't worry. Also had PGP and lots of weird aches and pains. Try not to worry, you'll feel then soon X
