I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant and have just found out my 4yo has had slapped cheek.
Booked in for a blood test.......but can anyone provide some reassurance?
Google is not a friend in this situation xx

My 5 year old dd had it when I was 17 weeks, I too was really worried and had the blood test. Luckily it came back that I was immune. Fingers crossed for you, odds are in your favour so try not to worry! Smile

I'm not a doctor but I think most people are immune and have had it already without realising.

My ds had it when I was about the same with Dd. I had a blood test which showed some immunity so no one was concerned (except me!) Nothing else was done. Dd turned out perfect!

I caught it while at work (school) and unfortunately wasn't immune and had symptoms including the rash. Fortunately, the maternity department were great and I saw a consultant and had a scan within a few days. Everything is looking fine and Im have another scan in a couple of weeks just to be sure.
I second that in most cases adults are immune though.

My DD had it while I was pregnant. The GP went to book me a blood test but couldn't. She rang me later and said that they'd stopped doing them. I rang the antenatal ward who confirmed this.

Clearly they are not worried in my part of the world (though this didn't help me, so glad you're getting one). DD2 was fine btw.

My DD had it when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I had a blood test and I was immune, the vast majority of people are. The actual chance of it causing problems even if you did get it are slim and the very fact it's been picked up on is a huge advantage (some people catch it and are symptom less which means it gets missed resulting in a delay of treatment/monitoring).

Fingers crossed for your results, I know the worry is awful Flowers

I'm currently being tested for this too.

Hope everything turns out okay Flowers

I had it and have just finished monitoring at the hospital for 8weeks to check for anaemia developing. All is well and this year although they've had an outbreak nobody has had any complications. Last year only one person (in city and surrounds) had complications and they were able to give a transfusion and all was well. Most likely you won't have caught it but hope that's reassuring even if you have.

Sorry to hijack a thread but doesn't seem sensible to start a second thread on the same topic.

I'm 5 weeks with my first. My nephew has slapped cheek, I'm due to help my BIL with something and I'm worried he could be carrying the virus.

outputgap · 16/08/2017 20:50

Fairfax, have you got enough time to get tested for immunity?
In my experience most people are very understanding and careful about infections and pregnancy. I would just give it a miss.

FairfaxAikman · 16/08/2017 21:08

No time to check immunity. Asked DF but he's got no idea if I've had it or not.

gruffalocake2 · 16/08/2017 21:39

It's normally passed from children it's not massively infectious so unless you are directly in contact with a child with it it's even less likely you'll get it. The risk is to childcarers and parents normally. Of course it's your call though.
