Baby measuring big

Have had lots of extra scans and been told that my baby is very large and got to go back in 3 weeks for another scan and if baby is still growing how he is at the moment then they will decide weather to take me in early. I'm 33 weeks now so will be 36 weeks at next scan.
Has anyone else had this, had other tests and all showing normal. Just worried about having baby 4 weeks early x

How big? I had several growth scans for a big baby but they estimated 9lb ish. He was actually 11lb but I went to 40 weeks before being induced for other reasons.

Growth scans are notoriously inaccurate to gauge actual weight. I know several where weight has been under and over estimated but a few pounds.

A better indication is the movement. This sounds odd but I could tell my son was big because he couldn't move like he had before - it was like I could feel he didn't have much space. It's hard to explain though.

Try not to worry - it's rare to be induced just for a large baby.

I was personally induced due to large expected size & weight and extra fluid around baby. at growth scans mine were estimated at my 38week scan of being 10lb so was induced as they were concerned about baby getting a bit stuck. Was induced (took 4 days 😂) and he came out with an episiotomy which healed really nicely (please follow advice they give you if this happens - I couldn't feel mine after 3 days!!) and he ended up being 9lb3oz xx

Hi thanks. I'm 33 weeks and they have said at growth scan today that baby is 6lb 6oz, I've had c-sections before so concerned about scar tissue and rupturing!!! My baby is now laying across my stomach which is what I thought, because up until 2 days ago I was in a lot of pain in my ribs and lists of pressure down below. After speaking with consultant after scan she said that in 3 weeks if baby is still growing at this rate they will discuss taking me in then for early c-section, as full term they think he will be around 10lb.

Ah, I see - it's a bit different then. The real issue is those scans are notoriously unreliable. Good luck - I'm sure it will be ok.

That's interesting. I already have a section booked for 39 weeks because I've ended up with 3 previous sections and this baby has an estimated 10lb6oz birth weight but nobody has said anything about extra concerns and delivering early. (I'm 29 weeks now)
Previous births were:
38 weeks 8lb 9oz
39 weeks 10lb 9oz
40 weeks 9lb 13oz
I just make hefty babies.
The 10lb6oz 9oz one I went into labour naturally and was in labour for 2 days with no concerns voiced about scar rupture.
Third one I was hoping for vbac and even had the go ahead for water birth but I set deadline of due date for multiple reasons .
Talk to your consultant about your worries, I find writing a list of questions to take in to your appointment helps.
As someone else said though scans aren't always accurate. Size wise they have been for me but I was induced with my first because they thought his stomach was too big for some reason due to scans but it wasn't.

Im in exactly the same boat. Growth scan on 1st i will be 35 weeks and discussion about what to do. Baby supposedly 5lb 9 at 32 weeks.

SelfObsessionHoney · 15/08/2017 21:22

I had growth scans, DS was estimated to reach 12-14lb if I went full term. I was induced at 37 weeks, induction didn't work and they were unable to break my waters so had a section at 37+5, DS was 9lb 6.5oz, so was on the larger side.

Oddsocksforeveryone · 16/08/2017 09:43

Crikey @selfobsessionhoney! I think I would've fallen off my chair with that estimate!

MagicMoneyTree · 16/08/2017 10:12

Of all the people I know who have had growth scans for "big" babies (and there are several) all have been inaccurate by a few pounds - and by that, I mean, the babies were estimated to be 9/10lbs when in fact they were 7/8lbs (one was just over 9lbs but they had estimated almost 11lbs in that case).

What pisses me off about this is they never seem to mention that it's not an exact science - they have made my friends/family feel as though it's really accurate until the baby arrives and then "oops, yeah well we sometimes get it wrong" - then why not say that before you advise an induction based on a "large" baby that may or may not be large?!!

Anyway, I know this is all anecdotal, but because of the number of women I know who have had fairly inaccurate growth scans, I would take them with a massive pinch of salt and think very carefully about any action taken based on the results. I would also ask the medical people about accuracy and find out straight from the horses mouth how often they get it wrong.

I'm 37 weeks and was told at my 36 week growth scan that my baby was measuring 7lb7oz already. Therefore prediction at birth is a 9lb baby so I've been put on a GD monitoring for 5 days (which has come back negative) and had a TORCH infection screening which again came back negative. I have been diagnosed with mild polyhydramnios with 24cm of fluid around baby so have to be monitored twice weekly and have an appointment with a consultant tomorrow morning to discuss my birth plan. I imagine what they are going to discuss with me is the fact that they won't let me go over my due date in case baby gets any bigger. I also have another growth scan next week to determine if fluid has gone down or up and if it's gone up they may have to do a c section or induce me earlier but again this is just everything I've read from google. I'll come back tomorrow after my consultant meeting and let you know what they've said. Do you know how much fluid you have around baby? Have you been tested for GD? Best of luck!

Hello, I'm another one that makes giant babies Grin Mine were 9lb 12oz, 9lb 12oz, 10lb 1oz and currently pregnant with no. 4. I birthed them all naturally but had to be induced all three times.

Was monitored for GD in first pregnancy (didn't have it) but not in subsequent two. Went two weeks over with first two babies before they induced me but with the last baby I insisted on seeing the consultant and he examined me and then induced me on my due date. Bloody good job too as I had a hell of a struggle pushing him out.

With this pregnancy they're putting me under consultant led care to keep a close eye on how big he/she gets due to my history. They are talking about testing me again for GD this time but I know it'll come back negative I just make whoppers!

SelfObsessionHoney · 16/08/2017 10:50

Oddsocks yep. Was a bit of an eye watering estimate! He's 99th centile for all measurements, and at 8 weeks tomorrow I've had to put him in 3-6 month sleep suits cos he's just too long!
Every scan I had the sonographers did an intake of breath and commented on how big he was 😂

angelinheaven · 16/08/2017 22:19

Hi all, been tested for gd and all negative. My dc weights where
7,5
7,7
8,10
8,12
Then the 5th dd was ill, and she only weighed 6lb
So think they are setting everything on my last dd only being 6 lb, yet if this baby follows my other 4 dc he could easily be 9lb 10oz. And I'm booked for my c-section so unless there is a proper medical problem with baby surely everything will be fine. My friend was told her baby had stopped growing and was worried yet when he arrived he was nearly 10lb !!!!!
