Can anyone advise on where sells decent cots and matching furniture that doesn't look/feel cheap?

Just looked in Mamas and Papas & John Lewis and appalled at the selection and quality.

Seems there's a massive gap in the market for beautiful crafted children's furniture!

We have kidsmill stuff (the Marseille range) - definitely not cheap but the chest of drawers and wardrobes could sit happily in an adult's bedroom and not look out of place so definitely an investment. And it's all incredibly sturdy and well built

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 15/08/2017 18:56

We had the osborne furniture from mamas and papas and it didn't get much sturdier. V. good quality.

HelloSquirrels · 15/08/2017 18:57

Ours was all from Ikea and good quality for the price. Cots and nursery furniture last max what 3 years? I didn't see the point in spending massive amounts of money on them.

RandomDent · 15/08/2017 18:59

I didn't know plastic furniture existed?

BlueeSpottyTiger · 15/08/2017 19:21

Mine is just an Obaby set from Tesco direct. Solid wood and very sturdy. Plus there was a pricing error... Tesco acidentally priced it at £79(not on offer) for the set of 3 when all its partners online were selling it at £500+.... The next day it was back at full price 🤗

NerrSnerr · 15/08/2017 19:37

Our cot was second hand originally John Lewis, the rest of the furniture is normal adult stuff as it seemed a massive waste of money and resources to replace everything after a couple of years.

BertieBotts · 15/08/2017 19:46

Nursery furniture is a massive con as they outgrow it and what's the use of tiny drawers/wardrobe you can't fit anything in? Get normal sized stuff and just less of it. You can get a topper for a chest of drawers to turn it into a changing table if you like. I don't think babies even need wardrobes as all their stuff can be folded. Maybe for dresses if you have a girl - even then, just get a pressure fit rail and put it into a normal shelving unit.

I like Ikea stuff too for reasonable prices compared to the quality. But you can get nice normal furniture and then find a cot to match.

eggsbenedict89 · 15/08/2017 19:50

@RandomDent it's the coating I was referring to.
Advertised as wood but feels/handles very synthetic Hmm

Ebay. Seriously a baby doesnt need expensive stuff.

New 'nursery furniture' is all lightweight and tippable in my opinion. We just have solid antique/vintage wood chest of drawers (loads of similar on eBay) and a cot. I don't like the matchy matchy look.

Littlelondoner · 15/08/2017 20:25

Look at Leander. Its is beautiful. An other vote for boori or stokke too.

MrsDilligaf · 15/08/2017 20:34

Our nursery furniture is from Mamas and Papas and was secondhand from a friend. It is solid wood, it lasted her through 2 DC and at 10 years old it is as good as new. Dd will use it for as long as possible and if it's still in good nick I'll pass it on. It's a very classic style and hasn't dated at all. Its absolutely lovely but would have been hugely over budget if we'd have bought it brand new.

Honestly... if we hadn't been offered the nursery furniture for next to nothing I would have bought a bog standard cot and normal bedroom furniture.

Snoozlecorn · 15/08/2017 21:11

I've got the baby K range from Mothercare. Very happy with it. Solid wood and extremely heavy! Looks great in our nursery and the wardrobe is a decent size too so should last years. The changing table also has a removable top to turn it into a normal drawer unit.

IckyPop · 15/08/2017 21:53

Try Mokee for cots. Made from real wood, with different colour choices. £79 and the side comes off to make a cot bed. DS was very happy in his until he moved to a big bed at the of 2.8

We've solid oak nursery furniture from M&S. It's beautiful and still like new 4 years on.

BentleyBelly · 15/08/2017 22:12

Just looked online and they don't do it anymore so not helpful...sorry.

scottishbride · 15/08/2017 22:13

Ours is Oak Furniture Land, looks gorgeous and feels like it will last forever!

katienana · 15/08/2017 22:15

I have a mamas and Papas cot, its currently on ds2 and well into the 3rd year of use with no signs of wear. When he outgrows the cotbed he'll go into a full size single. No point spending thousands on stuff you won't be keeping for years and years.

I just looked on Dragons of Walton Street furniture website.

I think £2995 is a bit much for a red & blue painted childs desk.

I paid £27.00 for DDs desk from.....Tesco Direct.

Its actually a dressing table (see photo) All from the Southwold range.

The bedside cabinet was £7.50, £36 for the chest of drawers & the wardrobe £75.

All beatiful looking & I dont think £150 is bad for a whole set.

My Dad and Stepmum bought there's from a company in Holland. Beautiful and handmade chunky wood. It's on it's 4th baby now, after my little sister and my 2 daughters, my brother sanded the cot down and repainted it fur his daughter (it didn't reall need it and was in lovely condition) and the furniture is still pristine. I'll try and find out the name.

Hunkle · 16/08/2017 07:16

It doesnt have to be nursery specific though? A salespersons dream.

Bear2014 · 16/08/2017 08:04

We love our Stokke cot. We bought it for £200 second hand (including the crib version). It's currently on DC2, still looks perfect and we'll probably sell it on for £200 again when we're finished with it. We just have normal furniture for the rest of the room.
