Induction

Hi All, I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I will likely be induced prior to my due date as I'll be over 40 and we lost a baby at 22 weeks last year so the plan is to get this one out safely. This will probably be our only baby as it's taken years and lots of ivf to get this far so I'd really like to have a water birth as that has always been my wish. If I'm induced with pessaries as opposed to a drip then could I still have one? I hope someone can answer! Thanks x

Pessaries are usually administered on a labour ward rather than delivery room, and I think regular monitoring is required to see how things are progressing.
I could be wrong but it's unlikely to be doable with a water birth.
Pretty sure at my hospital you are admitted on a labour ward for induction and not moved to a delivery suite until you are well on your way.

At my hospital they said if the pessary got you going into proper labour you could go to the midwife led unit with possibility of water birth. But if you need the drip there's no chance. I don't know how many people go into labour with just the pessary though. I needed the drip and even that didn't work so had emcs

At our local hospital you become consultant led as soon as you are induced which means delivery suite, constant monitoring & no water birth unfortunately but I do know it differs between hospitals.

I was induced at 40 weeks as i was 41. It was a slow process for me. I went in on the Tuesday, my waters finally broke on the Friday night (had 2 pessaries), but nothing happened so i was on the stop on Saturday morning. I was monitored constantly, so no water birth unfortunately. I did end up with an emcs which was something i'd not considered, but actually it was the best bit. Very calm and of course I got to meet out dd.
Honestly, my birth plan completely went out the window, but she arrived safely.

Thanks ladies. I guessed this maybe the case. Just have to hope that it starts naturally early!
