Carpal tunnel - Jesus fuck tell me how to stop the tingling?!

33+5 and it's like some sadistic form of water torture. Is there anything I can do to help? It's worst at night when my entire hands go numb but during the day, the tips of my fingers are numb to touch and it's affecting my typing and driving. I last saw my midwife 2 and a bit weeks ago where it was nowhere near as bad - she didn't offer me any advice.

Are there any home remedies that help?

I have it too! I've had issues on and off for about 3 or 4 years (including one horrific night where I couldn't sleep due to sheer agony caused by pins and needles. It was worse than the pain when I broke my ankle.)

I've had tests for CT which were negative and my gp (this was a few months ago) thought it was part RSI part arthritis as the tingling was very rare but the last month I've had the tingling every night. I sleep in a dead sexy thumb brace and have had ergonomic keyboard and mouse at work for months but the tingling is getting worse.

I was told that shaking your hand vigorously can help but I'm going back to the gp to ask for a cortisone injection as they are supposed to help. I'd suggest you see your gp.

I had it too, but it turned out to be linked to my thyroid.

Get yourself a full hand strap for the affected hand, even if you can only wear it at night it will make one hell of a difference.

Had this for ages, from a teenager. Alternating hot and cold compresses helps a bit, and a wrist splint with a thumb guard. I've eventually had the ligament cutting operation on one wrist (it does leave a weakness there, easy to sprain it), and in the other wrist I've had the cortisone injections, which were very good. Took about a day to fully work.

Yy to wrist splints at night.

Outdoorsy5644 · 11/08/2017 21:51

Not PG but I have carpal tunnel syndrome and need to wear wrist splints at night - sometimes during the day too.
I get mine from Amazon, about £7-£10 each.

I had this in both my pregnancies and I do sympathise. It was particularly bad at night and I would wake every 10 minutes. I was given hand splints which I wore in bed and they made all the difference. Do ask the midwife.

flapjackfairy · 11/08/2017 21:53

I have had it for years and wrist splints are the only things that work .
Seriously cant recommend highly enough.

Foundwantingalways · 11/08/2017 21:55

That's the term I was grasping for! Wrist splints!

CinderellasBroom · 11/08/2017 21:56

Wrist splints WITH the metal bits - the soft ones didn't work for me, but the ones with metal inserts did. If it's really bad, start by wearing them all the time, then reduce it gradually until you're only wearing them at night, then every other night.

annlee3817 · 11/08/2017 22:10

Mine stopped after I had my DD, my friend though used wrist splints. You have my sympathy, it was horrible, I couldn't even hold up the hairdryer without being in pain Flowers

Frillyhorseyknickers · 11/08/2017 22:29

Unanamous support for the wrist splint then! I can either order one off Amazon now next day delivery or get one from boots tomorrow - any recommendations on which splints are best?

I think I had an Actesso one, originally from Boots (on the GP's recommendation) then from Amazon when I needed a second one for the other wrist. You might be better getting the first one in person, as I would have bought a medium, but ended up trying it on (at the pharmacist's suggestion) and needing the small, and it doesn't work so well if it won't tighten enough.

mineofuselessinformation · 11/08/2017 23:19

I have the actesso ones too. Do them up from the arm end first, working towards the hand. Be careful not to pull them too tight. They really help.

OhOurBilly · 12/08/2017 11:25

It's bloody awful, my sympathies! Mine gradually went away and was completely gone by the time ds was a few months old.

I tried doing some wrist bendy excersizes but I'm not sure quite how much of a difference it made.

crumbsinthecutlerydrawer · 12/08/2017 11:33

I wear wrist splints at night, I have it in both hands, they work but only if I've not been doing anything too strenuous in the day.

My job is manual so on the nights I've been working it's agony, not just pins and needles but a pressure on the arm and pain I can't really describe that goes through most of the day. I did have an injection for one wrist but I had to take two days off work after, just because there is heavy lifting. I only actually got 5 weeks relief before it was back. It didn't come back gradually either it was literally fine one night and the next night was like I'd never had the injection.

I've been on a waiting list for surgery for a year now and I'm told even that might not be a permanent solution.
