Can I ask how much weight you gained by 20 weeks of your pregnancy and then how much by 40 weeks (or to term)?

I've gained 2.8kg/6lbat the 20 week point and I'm trying to work out how big I'll get/gain over the next 20 weeks.

I don't know for 20 weeks. But full term I gained 10kg. I didn't bother with maternity clothes at all, I just went up one size in normal clothes. I didn't have a 'still look pregnant' bump after the birth, and was back in my pre pregnancy jeans within a month. So was very happy.

Jellybabie3 · 11/08/2017 14:10

I had gained 12lbs by 20 weeks. I am now 34 weeks and have gained 26 lbs, so nearly 2 stone.

nc1080 · 11/08/2017 14:14

Very varied then!

I've not been active at all. Just walking where I can. I don't really want to gain more than 11kg but I don't know if I can help that through diet or how my body will respond later in pregnancy.

I'm really lazy so I know if I gain loads of weight, I'll never get it off.

I've not gained much at 18/40 either - just under 3kg/6.6lb (starting weight 65kg, tall and slim) but always feel like I should be heavier by now. Midwife not concerned. I'm quite active pre and during pregnancy - I walk to work regularly, keep active at work and try and jog and do body weight training at the gym approx 1x week. I also eat a mostly healthy diet with lots of fruit, veg and protein, but I do have snack/treat food too.
The UK NICE guidelines suggest not to eat extra calories in 1st&2nd trimester but American guidelines suggest 350-500cals extra in 2nd &3rd tri respectively. I genuinely think I'd be losing weight if I stuck to 2000 cals/day, so eat what I burn off (I use good quality fitness watch).

Obviously everyone is different, but how does this compare to others?

nc1080 · 11/08/2017 14:34

Oooh Helen my start weight was just under 65kg too! I'm 5"6. You're a hell of a lot more active than I am though. I just want to lose it quickly so it's not bugging me once baby is here.

Not sure about at twenty weeks, maybe 4 kg. I gained 9.5 kg total. I didn't do anything or not do anything, although I can recall I couldn't eat large meals in late pregnancy, no space.

PurpleTraitor · 11/08/2017 14:38

I'd gained nothing at 20 weeks and 7lb at 40 weeks with one pregnancy.

12lb by 20 weeks with another,

And 18lb by 40 weeks in another, I don't have the exact figure for 20 weeks that time but I can tell you it all went on in those first four months.

As everyone else said, how long is a piece of string?

Helenback56 · 11/08/2017 14:45

I spent the winter and spring training for my first half marathon....which I technically ran pregnant, but I didn't know at that point, but point being I started off active and was a regular leisure runner, so it would drive me mad not being active. Nothing wrong with you introducing walking, swimming, yoga eta now so you are more active but not over exerting, then carry on with appropriate activities after - walking with a pram is obviously free. Keeping active is meant to make your labour easier and shorter too, but activity aside, what you eat as much as how much you eat now and post partum will also have an influence on weight gain/loss. I plan to breast feed so hopefully that will help with weight loss too.

Rayna37 · 11/08/2017 15:07

If you're eating normally or better than normally then it's just part of the process, it's not "getting fat"! You should expect 11-15kgs in total and about 0.5kg a week from 20-40 weeks. As long as weight gain in normal range shouldn't be an issue to lose it again. Try not to dwell on it!

Still -1kg at 20 weeks due to hyperemesis. 37 weeks now and +5kg... midwife did nearly fall off her chair when she realised last week, but I did remind her that I'd had the hyperemesis and so lost a bit while we were trying to get it under control.

One stone by twenty weeks, four stone by forty weeks Blush it came off quickly thankfully

Sasmac2017 · 12/08/2017 08:11

@nc1080 - I was up about 7kg by 20 weeks. I'm 39 weeks on Monday and have gained 18kg all up. I'm not too worried it's only about 2kg more than the recommended. I was healthy BMI to start but on the low end and I didn't have much body fat (athletic). I have exercised the whole way through, weight training, hiking, swimming etc. I gained 40kg (85lbs) with my first so I'm counting this as an accomplishment! Don't stress, your 2kg is nothing to worry about :)

Sasmac2017 · 12/08/2017 08:13

Oh, and I will add that I'm nit actually that much bigger. Only gone up one dress size, my boobs are quite a lot bigger and belly is big. The rest has a covering, but nothing absurd :)

Thanks @Sasmac2017 !Smile

I was about 2 stone overweight before I got pregnant and lost about half a stone through morning sickness. At 20 weeks I'm now 3kg up on what I was at my booking appt at 12 weeks.

LapinR0se · 13/08/2017 20:56

I was 53kg when I got pregnant and now at 21 weeks I am 56kg.
Last pregnancy I can't remember how much I weighed at 20 weeks but I gained 12kg overall

LapinR0se · 13/08/2017 20:56

Pressed post too quickly. I gained 12kg overall last pregnancy but lost it in 3 weeks
