Should he go into work? Early labour - semi-urgent!

Okay so DP has to leave for work in an hour if he does end up going in.

Currently 40+9 with our first baby. Been having contractions since 3.30am, started off 15 mins apart, now 9 mins apart and getting quite painful - have to really focus on breathing and can't talk much.

Thing is I was in the hospital less than 12 hours ago getting checked out as I thought my waters had broken, and they said not, that my cervix and womb were all closed and no signs of imminent labour and I'd probably be waiting for my induction on Sunday. Things seemed to have progressed a lot considering how sure they were.

I'm pretty sure I'm in early labour as it's been going on for a few hours, but it seems to be progressing relatively quickly. DP's commute takes about an hour and a half each way and costs a fair bit of money, is it worth him going into work to be called in 2 hours to start heading home? Our hospital says to come in when contractions are 4-5 mins apart or your waters go or you're in too much pain to focus on anything else.

Just some advice needed really! X

Also sorry if that's a really stupid question, now it's almost time I'm getting kind of anxious and my worst fear is having one of those super fast unplanned home births and being on my own during it!

I'd have him stay with me, If anything for comfort! And as you say things are progressing quickly you don't want him to miss anything :) good luck!

BibbidiBobbidi · 11/08/2017 06:06

I second him staying home.
Good luck!

toopeoply · 11/08/2017 06:07

Stay home. He won't get this chance back if he misses it. Enjoy your time together and good luck!

BigGreenOlives · 11/08/2017 06:09

I agree he should stay at home. You must be due to give birth soon at 41+2 with contractions getting closer & stronger.

Twickerhun · 11/08/2017 06:11

Stay home! I had similar to you and my baby came at 9.25 am.

eviethehamster · 11/08/2017 06:15

Another vote for stay home.

RedPandaMama · 11/08/2017 06:18

Thanks everyone, he's going to stay - think he's secretly happy to be able to laze around in bed on a Friday! Hopefully baby will come today Smile

Stay home! With my first, when I got to the stage when I needed to go to hospital then things happened quickly, I couldn't have waited that long or been on my own.

Good luck!!

Mutiny0nTheBunty · 11/08/2017 06:20

Stay home. I doubt he'll concentrate even if he does try and go in.

Second the opinion that he won't get another chance at this

Good luck Smile

How exciting! Good luck... being checked out has probably given you the nudge your body needed.

Wait4nothing · 11/08/2017 06:29

Oh I hope it is it for you - I remember the frustration of being overdue! Good luck for today

lazycrazyhazy · 11/08/2017 06:29

Even if baby doesn't come today you'd
be anxious if he'd gone so I'm glad he stayed. I hope you have a quick and easy iabour. I niggled for days with all of mine but was quick once it got past about 5cms, we are all different. Generally the old rule about you don't need to go to hospital if you can speak through the contractions works but some people seem to get nothing more than a bit of back ache!

Good luck, rest up and then keep active if you can.

Right choice made

Good luck OP!

Coconutspongexo · 11/08/2017 06:39

Good luck OP!

If it makes you feel better too I was told I wasn't in labour ( the end of my 2nd day of induction) at 8pm - I certainly knew I was, I had my son at 23:57 that same evening

HazyDays81 · 11/08/2017 07:38

Good luck RedPandaMama! Yes definitely good for your DP to stay at home. Wishing you all the best. Keep us posted! X

Oysterbabe · 11/08/2017 09:23
