Anterior placenta

Hi,

Has anyone any experience of having a placenta at the front? I'm 18 weeks pregnant and due to some bleeding had a scan and they've told me my placenta is anterior.
I'm struggling to feel movements in any regular pattern I remember my daughter being so wriggly so this is new to me, I do feel some movements but nothing regular. I'm worried how I'm supposed to monitor kicks etc when I can't feel them.

Any advice as I'm worrying a lot x

I have an Anterior placenta, most who have it don't feel any movement til well into the 20 week mark (Eg. 23 weeks etc.) I couldn't imagine having regular movemts so early on but this is my only pregnancy so have nothing to compare too my anterior ! Hope all is okay otherwise . x

I have one but am feels no movements daily. No real pattern though. I'm 20 weeks

twinkle1972 · 08/08/2017 08:50

That should say 'am feeling'. Phone has a mind of if it's own!

I didn't feel anything with my first until 20 weeks plus. Even when I could feel the baby move my DH couldn't until about 2 weeks later due to my placenta. However once I was later in pregnancy I felt lots of movement!

I didn't really feel anything til 24 weeks and it was after 28 weeks before I could feel strong kicks and more of a pattern

Hi, I have an anterior placenta. I was told at my 12 week scan that it was posterior so would feel movements 'early' so was in a complete panic by the 20 week scan when I'd barely felt anything. Then was told it was at the front, hence lack of movement. It was only by week 22 that started to feel anything at all and I'm 25+2 and it still varies depending on where the baby is lying.

Don't panic at all. You'll find your new normal :)

Hi Cupcakey I have an anterior placenta also - I found out at my 12 week scan and the midwife did say to me not to worry if I don't feel movement as early as other. I started to feel properly around the 21 week mark, until then it was slight odd feelings that could easily have been gas!
Im now 32 weeks and can regularly see my whole tummy moving as the little one wriggles away .... or stomps on my bladder!

Try not to worry too much - coming from an epic worrier!
You will get used to what is normal for you soon enough :)

I had an anterior placenta with DS & again this time. I felt my first movements with DS about 19 weeks but nothing regular until 22 / 24 weeks. This time round I felt my first movement at 15 weeks but only very slight movements until 19/ 20 weeks. Now it's full on movements at 26 weeks, kicks, flips etc. It's all round the edges though, nothing in the centre.

I have an anterior placenta. I didn't feel anything I could definitely say was the baby until about 25 weeks. As the weeks go on and she gets bigger I can feel more definite movement now.

Figgygal · 08/08/2017 22:56

I had one with ds2 and didn't feel anything reliably until 25weeks or so which was odd as with ds1 I felt him from around 16 weeks

harleysmammy · 08/08/2017 23:42

I had anterior placenta and I was in hospital 27 times from 24 weeks until he was born at 39 weeks because I simply would go 12 hours - 24 hours without feeling anything. That was at 24 weeks before I knew I had an anterior placenta and I was just told it was too early too feel constant movement. By 27 weeks, if I hadn't fee him for 4 hours I phoned the hospital and they ALWAYS told me to go in even though they knew it was me and they knew it was my placenta muffling the movement. They will always want to see you if you're worried x

lazycrazyhazy · 09/08/2017 00:46

I had an anterior placenta with all 5 of mine so know no different. I felt movements from 18 weeks with no 1 and like most earlier with the others. You certainly feel the downward movements "fanny daggers" later on!

I don't think there are any safety implications anyway. Not being too low is the main thing.

Alex295 · 09/08/2017 00:57

I have an anterior placenta, didn't feel anything until about 22 weeks I think. I'm 37 now and since I felt him move for the first time I paid a lot of attention on what his doing in there, probably because I had a miscarriage before so I wanted to make sure he is okay. But I've been at the hospital 5 times because of reduced movements and it turned out all the time that he was okay and it was just the placenta covering the movements. My advice is, if you feel like something is wrong, any time, just phone the mw or mau and get checked if you're worried xx

Thank you for all the replies. I'm going to try my best to relax and hope maybe I will feel more when further on. I'm especially anxious as I've previously had a miscarriage so worry about everything. It's so different to when I was pregnant with my daughter as she was literally never still.
Xxx
