IM really nervous, excited, scared.

DD3 but I've never been induced. What happens? Will it work? I also have group B strep.

Can't help with what to expect but just wanted to say good luck!

Bobbybobbins · 07/08/2017 08:06

Good luck! I was induced for number 1 - don't know if it'll be the same for you, but they started with a pessary for me then would have moved onto a drip if it didn't progress. Lots of monitoring of baby and checks. There was a big room which I think most places have, so you might have some friendly faces to talk to (I was in there on my own though)

Usually it will start with a 24 hour pessary that will soften the cervix and get things going hopefully. Expect lots of walking round the hospital and up and down stairs to encourage things along.. take earplugs!
Good luck!

They'll break ur waters if they can, u usually need to be about 2cm dilated for them to do this so if your not then you will need one of those pesserie things, never needed one tbh and been induced three times.

Once waters have been broken labour usually starts, but if nothing happens within a few hours they'll put u on a drip, I've only ever needed the drip the the once.

All the best x

This is how my induction went :
Stage one : cervical sweep in the community by midwife. Then recommended to walk a lot .

Stage 2: pessary inserted and recommended to keep mobile and return to hospital the next day.
Stage 3: Gel inserted and kept in hospital. Repeated a few times.
Stage 4: drip and waters being broken .

Result: all in all the whole process took over a week. It was a horrible experience and baby and I just about survived.

Please only go down the induction route if it's medically necessary. I.e. if there is a risk to you or baby.

** Ask the midwife what your bishop score is as a low bishop score makes induction much more difficult. Might be worth reading the NICE guidelines for induction of labour with your birth partner so that you know the standard of care to expect.

All the best. I hope you have a pleasant experience and a safe delivery. Xxx

Thanks ladies. Had the gel at 11am along with a sweep. MW could feel baby's head, been having sore cramps/tightenings since so fingers crossed

I was induced at 38+1 due to pre-eclampsia. Unfortunately I found it a rather horrendous experience but was totally unprepared for how intense everything is. I had the propess inserted 11:30am on the Friday and baby was delivered via forceps 01:05am on the Monday so it wasn't quick either.

I had propess, then stretch and sweep followed by gel pessary, then waters were broken and I went on the hormone drip. Things got really intense following waters being broken - back to back contractions with lots of vomiting - lovely.

Best of luck with it all! I hope it all goes smoothly! Apologies for the gloomy story - just remember for every horror story there's probably ten normal ones!!

Hi @Lynzixo

I was induced with my first back in October and I also had the gel and sweep around 10am, started getting cramps and back ache a long with spotting and when I was checked around 7pm I was having contractions (seen on the monitor - couldn't feel) and was 2cm dialled. An hour later the contractions really kicked off and he was born 11 hours later. I went from 2cm at 7pm to 8cm at 12am!
Good luck!

Was 2cm last night at 11pm, pains were coming until 5am then stopped. Just so tired now Sad

Hi @Lynzixo

Aw that's no good, how are you feeling?

Have you had the pessary? Hopefully today is the day you meet your baby.

Good luck 🙂

needsomesunshineandwine · 08/08/2017 07:41

Sorry, just saw your tired.

Are you able to get some rest?

Bobbybobbins · 08/08/2017 07:55

Fingers crossed for a quick arrival! Xx

Lynzixo · 08/08/2017 08:08

I am hoping I get either more gel today or my waters broken.. my labours are never quick! I slept for 2 hours once pains went away.

Fingers crossed 🤞

Hi ladies.

Update, after two sets of gel only making me sore & dilate to a 5cm, they broke my waters at 12.10pm today & my not so little girl arrived pretty quickly at 4.15pm I pushed a 9lb 6oz beautiful girl out with only G&A.

Baby Ella & I are doing good, I did loose a bit of blood though so still in hospital. Hope you all have your LO's soon
