Hi all,
So, I am around 2 months pregnant. I found out roughly 3 weeks ago, to which I have tried nothing but to contact the doctors. All I am getting is put on hold, ignored, missing appointments as they have done 2 weeks of calling in and booking an appointment, or, telling me that I can go to the hub, then getting a call saying I can't be seen. AHHHHGGG! I've had enough! I'm starting to panic that I won't be able to be medically seen in time for anything. I'm suffering morning sickness, heart burn, cravings and the cramping! So all the works, yet no one will see me!
Shall I just call the local midwife or get myself up to the early pregnancy unit in my local hospital?! I'm petrified but so frustrated from it all. Please, please, could someone help me!?

You shouldn't need to see the doctor- just book direct with the midwife.

Our GP won't even see you if you call to say you're pregnant. We just self refer to the midwife. I didn't see anyone until I was 10 weeks for booking in apt, then scan at 13 weeks, then next apt was at 19 weeks - and that's with a high risk pregnancy! Ask at Drs reception whether they have a number for midwife but don't get yourself worked up about it.

Why do you want to see a GP?
Just ring reception and ring/book in with Midwife. Definitely don't bother the EPU just over wanting an appointment, they are there for emergencies.
Try and relax, the first few months is just a lot of waiting.

As it's my first, I was under the impression you'd need to call the doctors to then get passed on. I'll find out the midwife number and do that then! So scared I'd miss out on the scan. Thank you everyone!

Yes, you should self refer to the midwives. Yes, you may not need to see a GP now. But if its that hard to get a GP appointment then you should consider moving to another practice before you get sick and need to see them.

In our area you just self refer via an online form. I had my booking in on Friday at 9 weeks, I've got a scan at 13 weeks and who knows after that! I'm high risk too and honestly you don't have that much input from Dr's etc.

For both my pregnancies, I just called the surgery (different one each pregnancy), told them I was pregnant, and they made a booking in appointment for me with a midwife. How on earth have you ended up chasing doctors? Did you not tell the surgery why you were calling? It all sounds bizzare!

Hanl30 · 07/08/2017 07:07

Here we also self refer. All the details were on my doctors surgery website as the midwifes are based at the children's centre

It does differ by area. Some accept self referrals some don't. Ring the hospital/midwives and they'll be able to tell you what to do.

SleepFreeZone · 07/08/2017 07:11

We are not allowed to self refer for some reason, we have to see the GP first. In my previous county though you just self referred. The GP Reception told me that though and gave me a leaflet with the numbers on.
