Fainting!

Today I attended the Mothercare event and purchased our pram. I had eaten breakfast, felt fine and it wasn't hot etc. As we queued I started to feel really odd and light headed, so walked over to the door for air whilst my husband spoke to the checkout staff.

It got worse and I started to see bright lights, the noise of the shop got quiet and I slumped myself over the counter. My senses continued to go until I could only see bright lights and hear very quiet background noise. Unbeknown to me the lovely staff very quickly got a chair for me and water, but I continued to faint and a nearby midwife (So grateful this happened at a Mothercare baby event!) lay me down on a cot mattress. I came to in a sweaty pile on the floor, totally mortified and confused.

The midwife was fantastic and so kind, it made the whole thing so much better and after I started to feel better I went straight home. I got checked out by the GP but the only explanation they suggest is iron, so I'll be getting my bloods done next week.

It's totally knocked my confident. I know people faint in pregnancy but I had no idea it would be so full on and without warning. I'm worried my iron will be fine and so it'll be even more unpredictable. Either way life obviously has to go on and now I'm scared of it happening again this week when I'm alone or somewhere without lovely nearby midwifes and sympathetic pregnant women.

Has anyone else experienced this? Was it a one off or did it happen again?

Know it's a bit of an old post but thought I'd update in case anyone else is reading!

I was tested for anaemia and midwife said she would call, so as she didn't I assumed I wasn't. It turned out I was and my iron continued to drop so I'm on a high dose now and that should hopefully sort things out.

If anyone does find themselves fainting I'd definitely get checked out to rule it out X

This happened to me last month. I didn't faint but felt like I was about too. I felt great all day then all of a sudden I felt so hot and dizzy I had to go and sit down. Was pretty scary as I was at the park with my daughter but thankfully I had family with me x

I fainted at work in front of a class of 6 year olds when I was about 9 weeks pregnant. It was a dramatic fall backwards and I cracked my head on a table!
The kids went home and told their parents all about it so they weren't surprised when they found out I was pregnant a few weeks later. It only happened once.

@meltingmarshmallows exactly the same happened to me! Funnily enough, walking around I felt fine but as soon as I stood still, I'd feel faint.

I haven't fainted yet but been very close to 3 times during my pregnancy, I'm currently 30 weeks along. First time was at work, second time at the hospital when I was in for my GTT test so I was in very good hands and 3rd time was on Sunday in Next when I went in to pick up some sleep suits. It comes on really quickly - I feel weak and my vision go blurry and my hearing disappears and I break out in a cold sweat. In Next I managed to get myself onto a seating area and the shop assistant brought me my payment card and purchase and got me a glasss of water, after 5-10 minutes I felt fine to leave. I have just had the results from my 28 week bloods and been prescribed iron tablets so I hope that will help as I really don't like not being in control. My GTT was normal.

@Sakura03 sounds very similar to me! I had my GTT last week (am also 30w) and had to lay on the chairs to stop myself from fainting, was horrible but I expected it.

I've been taking the iron and so far haven't noticed an improvement but know it takes a while. I hate feeling like it could happen at any time, funnily enough I had a near miss in Next on the weekend. When I feel it happening it makes me panic, takes the enjoyment out of being out & about so really hoping the iron solves it!

@Alulu123 it's strange isn't it? If I feel dizzy I pave a bit to try and stop it, not sure it helps though!
